Gaming Steve's First Creature
« on: June 19, 2006, 06:30:06 am »
Here is a picture of the creature I created at E3 during my private demo. Yeah, it's not the prettiest creature around, but I was actually trying to "use" as many elements on the creature as possible just to see how they worked rather than create a "useful" creature (so he ended up with a weird hammer on his back). I do like his hands which animated just like Mr. Burn's hands from The Simpsons!

Ask me any questions you might have about the creature but he actually animated really well. I was super impressed with him. I wonder if he might show up in the final game...

Oh that is so cool! He's pretty awesome. Was he able to grasp things with those long claws? Were you able to test how the hammer thing on his back worked?

Wow, as u said i can c as many elements as possible on the creature : :D
I like it ..makes me wonder how many things u can add to a creature....i mean ,
am i the only one liking the Hammer for a tail ?   :)
This picture just conferms that all the critters on this forum are very much doable.

I was wondering, are the wings rudementair? or does ur creature really fly ?

Oh an answer while i was posting, i should change to ..People like the hammer for a tail  :D

Heh, crazy! Im going to follow LadyM and ask if the creature actually used that hammer for anything. Also, what about its feet? Did it ever attempt a strike with its feet, or did it seem to default to the most viable attack options (biting and clawing)? With everything being procedurally generated and things being decided on parameters, I wondered if it made your creature attack more with what it thought it would use if it were a real creature, or would it throw in a hammer-strike/kick occasionally for some variation?

Of course, this is if you had the patience to press the 'test attack' button enough times :3

Sweet. From what I gather, this editor is really going to be as powerful as we think it is.

In additions to "hands" and "feet" and the like there is a "weapon" category you can choose. The hammer was from that category and would be used in combat (somehow). I could put the hammer anywhere I wanted ... anywhere. I just put it on his back because there was room and it sort of worked when it was on his back. I could have also added 20 hammers if I wanted, but I wanted the creature to look semi-decent.

The claws worked pretty well, they were also good for attacking. I mostly took them because they had a really cool animation.

Hum, I didn't have time to think of a name. Piggy-Wiggy the Haminator?

Best one yet!

I don't know about the hammer on the back though.
