Discuss about the World Cup. This is the only place that seems logical since there is no sports section. Let me just say one thing...
ENGLAND IS WINNING!

No-one can stop Trinidad and Tobago. Everybody, and I mean everybody wants them to win.
Not a winner anymore.

Yeah, it should really just be about Europeans who live and breathe soccer.

And I'm not being sarcastic. The US should go just because we're part of the world, but we shouldn't win. Germany should.

Actually, it did - happened in some south american country a few years ago.  Guy scored an own goal in the world cup, and a few days or weeks after he returned back to the country, he was murdered (probably by some mafia, drug cartel, or other major betting ring).

Aside from that, go Germany!

No, I meant I couldn't understand what he was trying to say. Now you've explained it, it makes sense.

It's a game of football. No human brain could comprehend the rules of football. If you ever attempt to learn the "offside" rule, be it not on my hands that your brain explodes.

Football tournament systems are at least as complicated, if not more so. Even test cricket is simple in comparison.

If you still want to learn, go to your nearest library, ask for the "Footbanomicron." Just remember that I warned you.
Not a winner anymore.

In Cambodia a player was shot for scoring an own goal.

Seriously guys, we all know who will win.

How does it work?

There is a group stage before the knockout tournament. Each group of four plays matches against other members of their group and then the two with the highest number of points at the end go through to the knockout stages.

Edit: this topic needs to be merged with the one in "Everything Else".

Yeah, I'm worried about Sancho from Trinidad and Tobago since he inadvertently scored on his own team. Hopefully, nothing will occur to him, but you never know when it comes to football fans.

They tied with Sweden today, ensuring their chance. :) Of course, my team, the Germans, will win because they rule.

Well, they've been stopped dead in their tracks by Paraquay by 0-2. Even if they won the match, they wouldn't have moved on due to England's tie with Sweden.

As a goalkeeper, I love it. Try playing a few games without linesmen - I'll tell you, it isn't much fun.

Should be their responsibility to maintain a certain from the goal and the ball, and if they cannot maintain it, they should pay for it.

I didn't quite understand that - do you mean it's the goalkeeper's responsibility to ensure that his defence doesn't get caught out? Well, I do agree with you in part, but that doesn't resolve the problem of goal-hanging - which is the entire reason for the existance of the offside rule.

Hmm... I must say, GO ITALY! I'm quite happy that Italy defeated Australia... even if it WAS only by the skin of their teeth. That really wasn't a penalty... but I was jumping off the walls when Italy won. At least ONE of the teams I was rooting for is doing good. Poor Mexico, though. Borgetti scoring on himself.. geez...

Germany vs Italy

My money's on Germany.

(Although my money was on Argentina beating Germany, despite me wanting Germany to win, so who knows what'll happen.)
