New Race - The Necromonicon Are HERE
« on: June 09, 2006, 03:43:07 am »
*After reading extensively about the creatures others have created for spore, I decided to find a way to wreak havok for the alliancea. I have attempted to create a realistic organism who evolved into the perfect killing machine the first time around. Tough as nails and relentless in their wake, they are a combination of 5 well known alien bad guys - the Zerg Zergling, the xenomorph from the Alien movie franchise, Predator, the bugs from Starship Troopers, and the Tyranids from Warhammer 40k. I hope the galaxy is prepared, the ViS are in for more complexity than they ever dreamed.*

Physical Description:

The necromonicon is a massive 6 limbed armored being with the head of a saurian, body of an ostrich, and a mixture of vicious natural weaponry to make it a highly capable killer, even though it evolved to be a meer scavenger. Its entire body is black and glossy, as it is covered in a thick shell carapace and a row of steal-hard spines flows down from its head to the end of its long tail, which ends in two blades reminiscent of a double-sided battle axe. This shell helps release and direct heat waves off of its body as its home planet is an inferno, and all its blades/spikes were evolved for digging, breaking rocks, and protection from predators.

It has a set of very large and powerful two jointed legs with birdlike feet to help it run up to speeds of 60 kilometers an hour in a 2G environment, to escape predators or chase prey, and hold itself high above the hot ground of their home planet. A pair of razor sharp scythe blades about 5 feet long extends from its first set of arms, used to slice rocks into edible chunks or as offensive/defensive weapons. Originally used as graspers in mating, the second set of arms is small with three fingered birdlike hands, and placed between their scythe arms. Their “hands” now work equally well to manipulate surroundings and aid the species in advancing technologically.

Its head is reptilian, with a large webbed fan (like a ducks foot) on each side of its head to help release more heat and cool the beast down. It has no ears but senses vibration through these fans as well as through its legs in case of earthquakes or eruptions. The tips of the 4 digits of the fan are also spiked. They have no sweat glands, as water is far too precious for life to waste. The atmosphere of their planet is extremely dry, and all water found in the ground or any stray molecules in the air are instantly absorbed and stored within their carapace via the fans or its mouth to be used sparingly. Its mouth is bizarre, in that it resembles a beak, but it opens as a four way jaw (like Elites from the video game Halo, a Goa’uld larva from Stargate SG-1, or Predator from the movies) with tough membranes between the sections and crushing dagger-like teeth to grind and hold in any minerals found in rocks so they can be digested. They’re also great for tearing flesh (now that there’s more food to consume on the planets they conquer). Their eyes are large and red. They see well into the infrared spectrum, again due to the nature of their environment, and it has even become useful in the darkness of their new underground cities as they emit so much heat from their bodies from millennia on the fire plains under the boiling suns. They use their body heat as a form of visual echolocation as it fills their caves and bounces off the walls. It is used to find their way around in the dark, and distinguish their own kind from their prey, no matter their environment. They hold their heads high on their long, thick, birdlike necks, which is the most heavily armored area of its entire body to dissuade any attack to its jugular by its two only predators, and the only two other lifeforms on their home planet: the volcano dragon (now extinct) and the magma shark (now farmed like cattle). They have a pair of large foraging tusks coming from beside their beak-mouth, and a set of horns starting from just between the eye and the heat fan that raises over their head which used to be used in mating competition but now serves as a sign of age, which is associated with importance within the limited Necromonicon royal rule.

Useful Notes:

*An obscure anomaly is found with the necromonicons, where even though their home planet is nearly barren of water, they can still swim and breathe in the oceans of other planets. Their massive weight and ability to absorb all moisture causes them to sink to the bottom of any body of water and use their head frills as gills, seeing as the frills are meant to draw in water from the atmosphere and separate the oxygen and hydrogen anyway. This has only helped reinforce their gluttony and belief they are the superior species in the galaxy.

*Being from a blistering hot, high gravity world, they’ve needed to become very tough, with a completely armored exterior and massive muscle groups to move around on their planet. This makes them very heavy, an equivalent of a ton in 1 galactic standard unit of planetary gravity (1G). However, because of their immense strength from their muscular legs, on a class 1G planet they can sprint at incredible speeds. Living razor edged tanks.

*The necromonicon is neither hot nor cold blooded, but use a form of counter-currant heating, where all heat coming from the outside can be shared by blood going to and from the heart. It can also hold its heat inside instead of dissipating it. This allows the necromonicon to survive in all types of environment, from ash and heat waved tropical worlds to blistering ice cold planets. The necromonicons shell can be used to store not only water, but air as well. This was discovered by accident when a necromonicon was shot into space on a ship invasion mission, and survived for several hours in the frigid vacuum, breathing the air trapped in its shell.

*The mating of the Necromonicon is based entirely on the fact that only 5% of the population is male. Because of this, the females are separated into two groups: warriors and mothers. Warriors comprise 85% of the females, trained from birth to be death-dealing Xenophobes with only one mission: kill for the betterment of the species. The mothers are the only ones who mate, and thousands of eggs are laid each year by the planetary herd. Mothers are chosen at infancy for their natural prowess in the nest, so as only the strongest breed, while the rest are used as masters of destruction and cannon fodder. The males are treated as royalty and every female is ready to give her life to preserve them. Their eggs are even tougher than their carapace, and the greatest irony of their culture is their two “Goddesses,” who invented teamwork and dynamite respectively, were both infertile.

STORY

THE NECRID BASIS
Part I
Chapter I

One Good Turn Deserves Another

Unknown to the Milky Way and its various inhabitants, a looming threat was on the horizon. On a remote planet hanging for its life on the far end of the galaxy, a stir of echoes was voiced as the last band of a cockroach-like insects were extinguished. The Necromonicon who had ate them laughed as he was joined by the rest of his unit for relocation to their next objective. It was always fun to destroy ruthlessly, but it was work, and there were bigger fish to fry.

Now, the Necromonicon aren’t evil mind you. They’re just good at what they do. REALLY good. It wasn't their fault they evolved into the perfect killing machine. The planet they had come from was, for lack of better words, a living hell. Named Abbadon by the first sentient Necromonicons millennia later, it was once a lush jungle planet filled with water. And evolution of the cell took place just like on billions of other worlds. Slowly life was formed, predator and prey were defined, and over time the first steps were taken onto land.

But suddenly the planet changed. Orbiting around the same sun as Abaddon, but in a much larger orbit, was a gas giant, three times as large as Jupiter. Its gravitational pull had been sucking in excess stellar matter for eons. This lead to an inevitability, and a disaster for the life on Abbadon. For once gas giant reaches critical mass, it will start to collapse on itself, and become a star. The inhabitants of Abbadon were now exposed to the light and heat of two suns, and a new pressure on the world caused by the shifted gravity of the region. As time passed the planets water evaporated and the tectonics plates underneath shifted causing volcanoes and lava flows to reshape the land into a black, charred hellscape.

Life, however, found a way. The still skittish and dimwitted land dwellers started to distinguish light from dark, and learnt that darkness, shade, was safe. As 99% of the primitive life on Abaddon was boiled alive in the oceans or cooked in the sun, one species, similar in appearance to trilobites, thrived on carcasses, minerals in the rocks, and the few shade-dwelling mosses that had evolved.

Of this great ancestor came three separate lineages. One colonized the lava flows, sharks which grew armor so tough not even magma could penetrate it. Another took flight, immense lizards 60 meters in length, which lived on the side of the volcanoes and tore apart their favorite prey herd. These herds were the third linage, and from them evolved the Necromonicon. They covered 50% of all the available land on the planet in one vast herd, eating their dead and consuming rocks for any available nutrients.

Chapter II

The Lightbulb Flickers On

Some argue that hardness and cruelty are genetic; others say it’s how one is raised and their environment. In the case of the Necromonicons, it was both. As they were constantly attacked from both the air and the lava flows that surrounded them, a young Necromonicon realized they needed a way to fight back. This lead to the first real group effort to kill something that wasn’t already injured, and the first of the two Necromonican deities, Kr’Heel. In a wake of brilliance, as they were hit from above by one of the volcano dragons, Kr’Heel told her herd to raise their scythed forearms into the air as a pack, and they brutally ripped open the reptile and its wings, causing it to fall to the ground and lay motionless. Or, as is now popular slang on Abbadon, it “Kr’Heeled over and died.” They continued this relentless attack on the dragons for years until they had caused an extinction of the lizards, and had built huts out of bones and hides. This of course left them a new challenge however; a massive population and no new food. They now had to turn on the magma sharks, but this time they had a new plan.

Chapter III

The Doctor Is In

Capturing a shark was no easy task, they had to lure it far enough out of the magma to leave it helpless on the land, but even then its thick hide and giant fangs were enough to strike fear in even the bravest of the tribal Necromonicons. Many methods of slaughter were attempted, from direct attack with hooves scythe and tail, to throwing large rocks on top. Nothing could seem to break the shark. It seemed hopeless.

But unknown to the tribe an old Necromonicon (old being a relative term as the average lifespan was 5 years until the eradication of the volcano dragons) by the name of He’Lem had made a breakthrough. In her quest for food he stuck the ground with her scythe and created a spark, which was quite common on a fire world. But as she watched the spark hit a pile of Necromonicon excrement (named ‘royds,’ meaning ‘smelly’ in Necron), it caused an explosion that would have killed He’Lem if she hadn’t evolved the thick carapace all life on Abaddon had. The Necromonicons had known for a long time their feces exploded when near fire, but never knew what to do with it until He’Lem, in another evolutionary leap, created the first clod of dynamite with her own ****, and tossed it into the massive mouth of the shark, blowing it up from the inside out. He’Lem was given the title of second deity for discovering that because of all the minerals and chemicals the Necromonicons were forced to eat, they excreted nitroglycerine, diatomaceous earth, and sodium carbonate – the ingredients for dynamite. Thus began “The Age of He’Lem Roydz.”

Chapter IV

Civilization For The Uncivil

The Necromonicons learnt to farm the magma sharks like they had been herded by the volcano dragons. They used the sharks for food, armor, simple boats to traverse the magma, and to build their houses, with the help of the natural dynamite. Over time it became a staple of life and lead them in the direction of true civilization. They blasted caverns and built cities deep within Abbadon’s depths, where they continued to evolve their minds and collective thinking until they created the “Bul’Shizite”, a combination list of rules and religious practices all Necromonicons were to follow, or be punished to death by magma shark. The first rule of the Bul’Shizite was “No Necromonicon may kill another under any circumstances,” to honor the struggles their herd ancestors had to face together on the Abaddon fire plains. From this point they progressed very little for over two galactic standard centuries, with a comfortable society and plenty of shark meat to feed the vast population.

Until the Gryfon came from beyond the suns…

Nice. Very nice.

A war, you say? Well, I'll have to wait and see what the other guys think.

Question: how is the 5% males thing biologically stable out of interest?

Great story, now if you wouldnt aim at the O.T.H.E.R. i would ask you gladly to join the SWU.
OK, both of you die and let us know what happens.

::: Deep within the Originator station, a Wexxian was in his private quarters studding the reports of a deep space probe. the reports where of a newly discovered species named The Necromonicon. The Wexxians clawed metallic hand griped harder around the datapad he was holding. "Interesting" he thougth! "A species PERFECT for war and destruction!"
This was exactly what he had hoped to find! "Such potential so many possibilities... yes, they are certainly suited for my plan!!!" he turned to the door to the corridor to make sure no one of his unworthy siblings where watching him. "Soon I will strike. The pathetic CAB or the OTHER will not be able to stop me... Nobody will!!!" :::

Love the creatures man real MEAN!  ;) You can probably tell that I think there good bad guys!

You need a drawing for your creature, dude? If you want me to, the only thing I cannot picture is a saurian head. I don't know what that is so give a description.

They cant have no. Weaknesses. I would think that extended exposure to cold or short exposure to extreme cold would bring them down. Since they live on a magma world they wouldnt be very good at generating heat.
