Sam, what is zero-point energy?  I've heard it several times before, but no one has properly explained it to me.
Leave to a Thark his head and one hand and he may yet conquer.

Wikipedia is your friend. Submit to the collective conciousness.

In this case I refer you to the 'cultural references' section :P

<Salutes>

We have a winner!

Recently, an advanced race of prophetic aliens turned up a truly chilling vision. Alternate reality? Inevitable future? Or just a fevered nightmare?

Enough stars to form a large galaxy, all the same, all uniform. Every one carefully arranged on a flat plane in space. The monotone drone of countless ViS echoes through the soundless void of space, elsewhere there is nothing...

Dun dun... daaaahh!

An awards scheme is unecisarilly complex. You are scheduelled for liquidation in thirty minutes. Proceed to section 2 for processing. A new unit will continue your work.

Sure it's effieient now, but it had to be a pain to arrange them all like that. I get the impression that that is the result of future ViS accidently, and temporarally discovering boredom, and deciding to do something huge and (almost) pointless so that they could check it off their list.

To the ViS the end usually justifies the means. For example, they had to employ some pretty crazy bio-engineering to make themselves and they spent ages trying to develop the secrets of Zero-point energy but now thats done theyve abandoned all research in those areas and just reap the benefits.
