Demosthenes's Creature-> The Duyk
« on: June 02, 2006, 05:14:18 pm »
Hello, This will be my first post ;D. And I was wondering what you thought of my creature the Duyk. It was just a random drawing of mine. Now that I have finally finished the picture (because it took so long to draw ;) ) So now I will work on its history and background facts. Also please feel free to make your own versions of the Duyk; I would love someone with some "artistic talent" (that I don't have) to post their own pictures of the Duyk on this thread.

I changed some parts of the Duyk. Now it has lost its arm and hand but now has two grasping proboscis.
The New link is : http://artpad.art.com/?j0alsic2w3g

So; any feedback/comments about the Duyk on how I could change it?

Thank you very much

More Detailed Information:

Name: Duyk

Homeworld: Jeckt, a large moon orbiting a large gas giant. The moon is covered in swamps and oceans. It has no polar ice caps.  It has 4 main continents:

Heroi - Largest Continent used for Agriculture.
Yetrok - Second smallest continent used as an Industrial center.
Kyud - The Second largest continent used as a residential and commercial district as well as where the Senate is.
Ihip - A string of swamp-islands the size of Iceland with many seaweed "beaches" at the equator of the moon.

Classification: Warm blooded, amphibious mammal.

Lifestyle: Social pack animal. Only feeds on plankton and nectar from swamp flowers.

Habitat: The swamps of Jeckt.

Temperature: 30 degrees Celsius average planet-wide.

Size: 5 feet long and 4 feet high at the "head carrier."

Weight: Females 300lbs, males 200-250 lbs.

Diet: Nectar from large swamp flowers which is full of vitamins and sugars and plankton through a filtering process in the main proboscis which leaves them protein, carbohydrates and iron.

Defenses: Make its three proboscis erect and aim them at the attacker.

Armour: The scales on the head and backside are used as armour.

Weapons: The erect proboscis can be used as spears as well as blowguns.

Lifespan: 50-60 years.

Hunt (for plankton)/ Forage (gathering nectar) Success rate:
 30% hunt, 80% forage

Tools: Its two grasping proboscis are used for everthing imaginable.

Reproduction/Mating: The males use their grasping proboscis to massage the females head. The Female either accepts or rejects the offer. If she accepts she makes her main proboscis erect and the male inserts his proboscis into hers. The males proboscis drops a microscopic egg into the females reproductive organs at the back of her proboscis (females produce Duyk sperm).

Duyk Pregnancy: After 6 months of developing the Duyk child under her head in a lump the female opens up glands at the top of her throat. The Duyk baby slides out.

Number of Offspring: 2-4

Duyk Children: The infants are white after birth but after a year or so this fades away. The Duyk infants get nutrition from a plankton/nectar mixture she regurgitates into the infant's main proboscis. After 2 and a half years the children are taught to filter plankton and drink nectar on their own. They reach sexual maturity at 17-20 years of age.

Communication: The Duyk creates a very high pitched sound from its "bubbles" on the side of its head. It is not unlike how dolphins communicate.

Government: The government of Jeckt is a senate controlled by elections of the people.

Races: There is only one Race of the Duyk; so there have not been any wars between the people regarding race.
However there was a seperatist group on Yetrok that claimed they were gifted from the gods and non-believers were "not pure." This started a large war between Yetrok and Heroi vs Ihip and Kyud.

Intergalatic Alliances/Treaty's: Head of Universal Agriculture at CAB

Religion: Coming Soon

History: Coming Soon

I like the picture. Although the colours are a little off it still looks great. I like the interesting shaped swords/sharp objects in its  grasping proboscis.
