The Kratok
« on: May 24, 2006, 04:09:39 pm »

http://artpad.art.com/?j04iujgvh4w

This board for my first creature, the Kratok, a bipedal creature with a spherical piece on the bottom with the mouth, four arms attached around the mouth, and four stalks completely covered by stiff hairs on the tips.

Sense: The hairs on the stalks of their head are for echo location, every few seconds the Kratok releases a beep to see the surrounding area

Defense: They have no real defenses except for one, when in danger, a pattern of holes open around on the sphere of the body. These help vent in a large amount of air, which they use to scream. This is used to
1.Warn other surrounding Kratoks of the predator and
2.To permanently hurt the predators hearing, make them death, or just blow there ears up.

Diet: The Kratoks diet is of plants only, they scourge their grassy plains eating every root, vine , or piece of grass they come upon .(EDITED: sorry, I thought about that giant size, and it doesn’t really make sense)

Reproduction: When reproducing, the couple connect there stalks and send the needed "fluids" to the other, because that they both have the same stalks, either can actualy have the baby, when maturing, the baby is in the middle of all four stalks, sometimes moving the stalk differing the parents vision. It stays in this pouch for about a year, when coming out, the parent leans down, and the babie walks off. They go into maturity at 10, as does the mating cycle

Anatomy: (I only have one part of their anatomy, because it’s the special part, I think they have exoskeletons) All and every important organs are loaded inside of the sphere of its body. Why is because, after using its screaming ability, the Kratok unlatch from the rest of the body, this is meant to distract the predator with its frontal body, when this happens, a VERY primitive eye activates so it can see where its running.

Vocabulary: How they started talking was from the screams they used on predators, they still have very low standards, there is about four different words, using there stalks for other things, as pointing out, these words are more like humming though, the words are
Mey: The planet
Kha: The Kratok themselves
Sel: Food Grass
Ref: Flower
Krk:  predators

Predators:
The Shizz: The Shizz roll around on three legs, on one side there eye, and the other a large mouth: They mode of attack is rolling prey over and eating there remains
http://www.random-p.com/sicon/spore85.jpg

The Goupi: Goupi walk on eight legs, with a humanoid posture, and two large arms with two spikes that open up to their mouths: simply stab and swallow

The Uthilke: Uuthillke are very rare, they are large, three eyed giant birds, powered by almost six pairs of wings, and symbolize Kkqqwwaaggii.

Other Animals:
Wizzlef: The Wizzlef are a large relation to the Kratok, though very different, Wizzlef are much larger then Kratok, so they instead eat trees, also, the Wizzlef developed four primative eyes around there head

Lifetime: 60 to 40 years, average 50 (not including predator threats)

Size: ˝ of a human height 3x the width

This is so far what I have, I don’t any scanners or drawing programs, have any ideas? Also, if there’s any flaming about how unfinished this is and all, well, that’s why I posted it here.

Interesting.

One biological weapon you could use is to give them a scream that is customised for each predator - a frequency matching the natural frequency of the predator meening that if they were pro-longed to it for long enough their body would litterally rip it-self apart.

I would have a go at drawing for you however
1) its very, very late
2) im allready doing a rather complicated picture.

Trial and error. I suspect they would use different frequencies each time to see which is most effective at driving them away, then one day the one predator got cocky at the wrong time and exploded. The Kratok saw what happened and when that predator came along again made the same noise to the same results.

Others would catch on soon and it'd pass down through generations. A sort of social evolution rather than biological.

As time continues on, the need for speech to tell of the "Boom trait" and regular uncomfortablity by people that you can't speak to you other than saying "food there". Soon they built a regligion upon as they are called: The two differences. These two gods are:

Uuiimmaa : The goddess of  death and rain
And Kkqqwwaaggii : The god of  birth and birds

Since they had no sight, birds were the signal that the day had begun, and because of their home planets tropicalness, at the start of every night it rained. This sometimes caused the Krotak to huddle into there caves in the middle of the day because it was raining, waiting for a bird to sing.

While in tribes, shamans, warriors and tailors were the only ones dressed, there main decorations where on the “head” (ill now reference the sphere as there head), as it was the only part that they could really reach. Shamans only wear the fur of the Shizz, which happens to be green. Warriors wear the hair of Wizzllef, which is red. Tailors wear the hair of Goupi ,which is purple.

like the concept of them associating night and day with birds and rain

but if they can't see, why would different classes wear different colors?

They only wear the fur of one specific animal, the colors are mere coincidence

Pretty good, two questions though, 1. What are Wizzllef? 2. Whose hair do the tailors wear?
Keep up the good work.

What will you do?

Even later in tribal stages, close to the finding of metal, the Shamen started wearing feathers on there heads, rookies in training wear simple singing bird feathers, normal Shamen wear scavenger feathers, and great Shamen wear the feathers of the Uuthillke. They Uuthillke feathers are a great simble of power

One day during a bad rain(this would be a thunderstorm) a brave, young, and hungry Kratok wandered out, listening to the rain and eating some grass. A lightning bolt struck, creating some fire, and scaring the Kratok under a tree. Luckily enough, the tree was under a cliff, so the fire didint get doused by rain. soon enough the Kratok came back out to see what happened, hearing a crackle, and feeling heat. Since it was raining, the Kratok continued to come closer to the heat. As we all know, when you play with fire, you get burned. Being singed, the Kratok ran home to his cave fearing he was being attacked. When he did come home, he told his birthgivers of the crackle, and as most parent are like, they thought he stepped on some thorns. Once the rain stopped, the Kratoks parents went with him to the place he heard the crackle, lucky enough, the fire lived through the night, this eventualy let to the discovery of fire, though without the knowing of how to create it.

(any alien contact coming?)

I think people on the boards wait and see if a creator of a species wants to bring them up to space age before interacting. If you'd prefer your species to have first contact whilst primitive I'm sure someone will oblige.  :)

As the days passed, the Shamen of the village thought apon this, Crackle, the boy had found. One, a rookie amongsthem, looked for key points of the happening. They could not see the crackle, the crackle gave off heat, a great blast happened when the crackle appeared, and the crackle hosted on a tree. Theorizing the blast might have been something falling down, the Shaman tried thrusting a twig at across a tree, hearing the scraping sound of them across eacthother. Trying again, this time with a rock, it just made a more scrapey sound. In anger, the Shaman threw the rock at a larger one, hearing a crackle! With this new point, the Shaman thought "the crackle must be born from rock, and live on wood! He then broke some twigs from a fallen tree, placed them by the rock, and hit the rock with the smaller rock, sending another crack through the air, onto the twigs, starting his own little fire! With his success, he ran back to other Shaman and told them of his doing, getting his own Uuthillke feather.
