Anyone else see this? (About Sporepedia)
« on: May 13, 2006, 04:24:16 pm »
Look at this picture:

Look at all of the creatures staues.

Notice anything? A pattern?  What is with that?

All the AI creatures have about the same stautes, but the player created doesn't of coarse, because the player created it not the computer.

But wait, supposidly players created the others critters to, so why the pattren? I know the game won't stay like this when it comes out, but anyone know why it is like that?

All are User created.  What do you mean they have the same pattern?

There is a quasi-discussion on this in image archives. They are just placeholders, as the creature bars were placeholders in '05.

I think it just shows the most important stats on the small card but if you click on it... or maybe only sentient creatures have the extra stats?

They all either have 1 64 44, 9 36 19, or 14 9 8.
He said the player created one (even though they all are I will assume he means the one selected) is different, but it is also a 9 36 19.
All we can take from this screenshot is that stats are not finished yet, so they used placeholder stats.

me too.  Not only are they the same but the 9 of them follow the same pattern too.  (so going from first to last creature it's 9, 14, 1, 9, 14, 1, 9, 14, 1)

Most likely just place holders.

at least there is a signature on the creatures so you can see who made it
Im happy for that :D

the stats will probably change later, or maybe its a bug :P

and oh BTW: the creature that is selected is not sentinent if you look at the corner of the card picture you can see that the creature dont have any brainpower, if it had it would be yellow? or is it the other way

I think they need to add another line to the cards for the 'scientific name'. It would add a bit of character. If you've ever seen a Road Runner cartoon you'll know what I'm talking about.

Road Runner

Velocitus Tremenjus
Hot-Roddicus Supersonicus
Speedipus Rex

Coyote:
Carnivorous Vulgaris
Road-Runnerus Digestus

Eatius Birdius
Famishius Fantasticus

ok a question about sporepedia.

we know that the game automaticly updates your game with other creatures/buildings/plants/etc and tries to addapt to your style but what if you have a friend who plays spore (say your friend lives next door) and you would like to have his creature on your world or in your universe, is there a way to get his specific creature?

Some people here may say "easy just buy it from the downloaded content" but the thing is there is a good chance that there will be hundreds or thousands of creatures to sort through. so what I was thinking was, is there a way sporepedia cards can be used outside the game? e.g. export a card to your desktop or a specific sporepedia folder. then trade this online (through MSN or e-mail) and this card holds the data for your creature (Will already said the data for files would be tiny) and then your friend could put that card into their game and their sporepedia.

There is going to be a 'friends list'. Free choice of download might be limited to after to clear the UFO stage (in my opinion)

I think when Spore comes out there'll be kind of a "space race" going on - which gamer can get to Space age the quickest so they can check out other planets for user created creatures.

there's a friend's list as lego said, you can also search the creator's name or send creatures by e-mail or disk.  I'm assuming you could also search the creature's name.

Also they have a little apple which looks like it shows if it s a good thing to eat. The pink pig thing has a green apple while most of the rest have an apple core. Which means they probbly are not so good to eat.

Or that might not be an apple core or apple and just show if they if they are a carnivore (red) or herbivore (green).

No, your wrong, its either an apple or a piece of meat depending on if your creture is a herbivore or a carnivore respectively.

Actually, the pink one is a piece of meat with a bite out it if, those icons are herbivore and carnivore.

Though here's an interesting question. What about creatures with the same name.

Or your computer will overheat trying to solve the problem and melt through to the center of the Earth.

Seriously though, why would that be a problem?  We call ourselves humans, say some other species does the same, does that mean one of us aren't humans?  No it just means we both have the same name.  It might mean you have 3 or 4 names to search through in an encyclopedia but thats no worst than the average phone book (a lot of people have the same name).

CGW claims that the first five stages of the game can probably be comepleted in well under 10 hours if somebody's rushing through it. I'm sure some people will reach the Space stage on day one.
Looks like even I was being optimistic with a March 07 release date...

So i was not sure. Though eatting carnivores cannot be all that good to eat. Fat herbivores i bet give more food.

Anyone thought that our creatures will be save in 5KB files to a respective folder for creatures? you don't need to "export sporepedia card" in order to send your friend a criature, just to to the criature folder and copy the files with the creatures you want (assuming the files are named with the name of the creature).

Ok, I have the answer. The upside down ones are chicken legs with a bite out of them. These are obviously Carnivores. The others are green apples with bites out of them. These are obviously Herbivores. That's my theory and it makes sense, at least in my opinion

But what if a creature is both herbivore and carnivore.  We do know that creatures can eat both and in many cases may not be strongly one or the other in their stats.

Then they are ominvorous. I'd imagine there will either be a third icon, or they will have both the 'drumstick' and the 'apple'.

Just noted: The list of card categories for the Sporepedia are as follows:
    Stars
    Planets
    Creatures
    Races [probably meaning sentient creatures]
    Flora
    Vehicles
    Buildings
    Missions
    Badges
