Nintendo DS
« on: March 17, 2005, 05:43:39 pm »
Nintendo has always been one for innovation, and they are really raising the bar with the DS. Who cares if it doesn't have the best graphics in the world? (I meant that rhetorically.) There are soooooo many cool-looking games for the DS. Problem is, however, none of them are out yet. Advance Wars DS, Animal Crossing DS, (come on, you can't just go around shooting stuff all day) Lost in Blue, Metroid Prime: Hunters, and, of course, the one game that Americans have been dying for for what has been at least a decade and a half--- Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you: FINAL FANTASY III!!! I cannot wait until that is finally released outside of Japan.

Well the DS is a really fun kiddy kind of system, but I didn't get any fun out of the touch screen really. And the launch titles and upcoming titles for the system don't do anything for me.

Also: Everybody is telling me the Final Fantasy III you're talking about is the original Final Fantasy III released in AMERICA, AKA Final Fantasy VI when it was remade for Playstation 1.

Gah... Animal Crossing DS... What I would give to have that game right now. It's a pity it doesn't have a definitive release date (at least from what I've seen).

The DS is my second favorite portable system. I can't get enough of Super Mario 64 DS and I played the Urbz for like 25 hours, Mr. Driller is also awsome multiplayer fun.

Well thats how Nintendo is going to compete with the PSP. They've held these titles back until the fabled March/April release date, so people will go to buy the PSP then be like "ANIMAL CROSSING DS?! OMG. I'M BUYING DS INSTEAD!" It'll be good times.

I'm just gonna through this out there and see how the piranhas bite.

Spore for the DS

huh?

Common, with the wi-fi hot spots and everything, makes you think.

I believe that Spore will come out for other systems besides the PC. It looks like it could work on Xbox (since it has a hard drive and internet connection) and even the DS and PSP (the PSP can connect to the internet and it has a memory card access). Or smaller versions will come out, like the portable versions of the Sims.

Don't worry, I'm sure in the end we'll have like 100 versions of Spore, just like we do with The Sims!

Nintendo has specifically stated that the DS is not the next Gameboy. Perhaps Spore will be available for what will be the next Gameboy.

It doesn't matter than the DS isn't the next Gameboy, it doesn't need to be, but with it's wi-fi capabilities, dual screens, and touch pad I can see it being a lot more "Spore friendly" than other systems. I could just imagine twirling around a creature with the stylus, stopping, adding a leg here, stretching it a little....*drool*

Yes. True. A lot of the DS's "experimental" features would be very Spore-friendly.

wait a sec, it just donned on me. Portable systmes have zilch for memory, or atleast not enough to really accomodate Spore. They would have to build memory into the game cart. That might be tricky with the DS. Unless they still used a GBA game cart but with DS info on it along with the additional memory.

DS does NOT have wi-fi capabilities. It has wireless capabilities. Wi-Fi runs only in certain spots that are Wi-Fi hotspots and have wireless network connections. The DS doesn't need a Wi-Fi hotspot, it can connect anywhere, you just have to have line of sight to your opponents, which you don't have to have with the Wi-Fi.

Actually Mika it does have Wi-Fi, that's one of the big new things about it. Nintendo is currently planning to have Wi-Fi hotspots all through Japan where htey will be able to provide demos and other informations for games. Such as new songs for the game Jam with the Band. I'll see if I can't find some links for you.

Yeah I've got one too. It's got the Wi-Fi in addition to the normal wireless, i'm still hunting a good link for you. but I'm not very good at this sort of thing. I think Reggy talks about it...

Or they could make a DS cart that was larger and stuck out of the handheld.

No, that wouldn't work. It would be very flimsy and would likely break.

Is anybody going to be purchasing Yoshi: Touch & Go? After reading the review at Gamerz-Edge, I know I certainly will be :D.

(I would've posted a direct link, but as the URL had Yoshi Tag (but all one word) the filter blocked it, making the link redirect to the wrong place)

The review can be found here:

(Combine to form one link ;))

I am curious as to what type of WiFi the DS is using. (IEEE 802.11A/B/B+/G/G+)? I may just pick one up to turn that feature on and study the packets with kismit to see what is going on.
If you spend word for word with me, I shall make your wit bankrupt.

That'll be nice. I bought the GCN version, but it grew kinda boring since i didn't know anyone else who had it. So I traded it in for Metroid Prime.

Can't wait for Animal Crossing for the DS.  Me and my friends wasted so much time on the GC version.  One of these days I should go back to my  town to see how run down it is.
