Buys Video Games at Sears

Does Sears even sell video games? If not, I'm just assuming that that is the point of the joke.

Sears is like the really sad suburban gamer's gaming store.

I would have imagined that the best thing that they had, if anything, would be something about a decade old.

Oh they have new games...they're all just marked up by like ten dollars. And only suburban kids who can have their mothers buy the games can afford it.

I used to buy certain games at CostCo. They were a lot cheaper there, if you happened to stumble upon the one you wanted.

I've done that a couple times. For the most part they have brand new games and all the greatest hits games. :P No semi-new games or anything.

And that is what makes it funny!

Keep posting (but don't post just any old thing) but your "tag" will continue to change and update. Right now all of the references are from the very early days of gaming (70s, very early 80s) and few others mixed in. The more you post, the closer you'll get to games of "today".

So keep posting and see if you can get all the references (3-D Tic-Tac-Toe anyone?)

Yes. Warehouse retailers tend to have a fairly good selection of games. Better than Sears, at least.

The point is that Halo 2 is probably the newest, most popular game out there.

I'm going to say that Halo 2 has lost almost all of its popularity. Some people still play it online but Bungie's X-Box Live count has gone down exponentially.

Well ... I actually used to be called "Master Chief" at work (100% true).

BUT that had nothing at all to do with Halo. It was a reference from the movie "GI Jane" ;D. Some of my employees liked to call me that ... and I didn't mind.

Sure, I love Iron Chef. But my wife is the "Master Chef" in the family -- she knows more about food and chefs than I do about video games ... scary.

I didn't think it possible for someone to know more about something than Steve knows about video games. Watch this.

It could be something like a more basic version of an old arcade game, perhaps.

Seems to be a very old game made with Basic, the first one using reusable tiles, kind of an adventure rpg by the looks.

Google: I have found a site...

Name:        Akalabeth
Publisher:    Origin
Developer:  Richard Garriott
Platform:     DOS
Year:          1979
Graphics:     CGA
Sound:        Beeper

Description:  Akalabeth: World of Doom is the predecessor for the Ultima series by Richard Garriot. It was originally an Apple IIe program, converted to PC for the Ultima Collection and the upcoming Ultima IX: Ascension. Walking around and inside all of Mondain's dungeons, Akalabeth has you rooting out critters and visiting the Lord British's castle.

Akalabeth was Richard Garriott's (Lord British) first computer game. Heh, if you had trouble with that one then you better try to find some good video game history web sites because there are a lot more where that came from!
