What do you think the dev team is working on? I personally think they are developing the end-game and repairing bugs/glitches. Seeing as the end game is, well, the end, they need to make it exciting and playable. Also, some minor glitches were apparant in the 1up video. If you vote other, please specify.

I think they are working on the game. But seriously, if you listen to the rumors they are still not finished till next year.

Probably working out all the bugs we have heard about and adding to the available content as needed, especially given that those two (at least) are seperate teams.

I'm guessing they're:

- Finishing texturing, procedural animation, creating gameplay-content, and fine-tuning as they go along...

i'm a fan of the GDC 2005 Spore video on Google Videos...

I don't think they are creating an endgame, as Spore doesn't exactly look like a game with an end.  they are probably fine tuning everything, fixing bugs and glitches (there are bound to be many considering the scope of this game), and maybe adding some aspects of the game we have not even guessed at yet!

I can't think of a single game that Will Wright has made which has an 'end'

They are just publishing.  Ultimately, Maxis is responsible for the quality.

I meant end game as in galactic stage, and stuff to do in it like zoo keeping, to make it interesting.

The most recent video makes it look like the game is pretty much complete, so I think that the majority of their time is being spent squishing bugs and trying to iron out any bugs in the algorithms that might produce wacky creatures/planets/plants/vehicles/etc. Of course, they can't fix every possible glitch that might appear, but then it'll be up to the players to report any they find.

Screw it I'd be happy with the copy they had in the demo as long as it didn't crash and the editor is working

I doubt the game is as finished as it seems, especially with regards the procedural animation--creatures tripping over their own legs and such (although that would be hilarious  ;D )  On a tangent, I wonder how different the procedural creation and population of worlds (disregarding the effort in putting stuff together that looks "right") is from, say, the random map engines of the Age of Empires games.

If you watched the 1up pre-E3 video with the spore stuff at the end (I say that video because the quality is a lot better :P ) the graphics are still pretty glitchy, I don't know the right words, but where you zoom in on a planet and the water and land clip each other back and forth...

Hopefully that made sense....sorry if it didn't.
