New Life
« on: May 04, 2006, 01:41:18 pm »
In the Ocean of Huthus lays the beginning of a great race, that accomplished unification of the universe. This pond was full with bacteria, and critters that were threats to the amoeba that would be the ancestor of our friends. At the beginning of the age, this amoeba was a mere blob with no defences. It was simple, it was small. It also had a hard time against the spikeheads. Those would ram into the amoebas body and then drink its juice. Luckily some amoeba were able to save itself and they fed on algae. After a while a mutation was noticed in the amoeba.

A: The amoeba grew flagella
B: The amoeba developed a horn
C: The amoeba developed a cellwall
D: The amoeba grew a trumpet snout (sucks in close algaes, and other organisms)

OK, both of you die and let us know what happens.

I'm going to go with C, because everything that I have ever learned about biology says that I shouldn't pick that.

Hmmm. Yeah. that enhancement is going to send us down the road to vegetablehood. I'm going to pick it too!

C Wins (I am trying to update quickly the first times)
Many amoeba became somehow harder to penetrate by the horns of the spikeheads. That development led to a stronger breed of amoeba as the weaklings were killed off and the strongest survived the best. Our amoebas grew over the course of millenia and finally reached a 2cm diameter. However a problem came up, through earthquakes and erosion the pond was ripped open to become a river. That didnt cause the amoeba to change location as they were rather heavy, but their algae would get washed away quickly. Therefore their environment was inhabited only by some spearheads, and bottomdwellers, crablike critters without the scissors. Luckily for the amoeba some of their breed evolved.
A: They grew flagella to swim after the algae
B: They grew little hairs to move about the bottom
C: They developed a snout, that could devour little bites(before they absorbed algae through their skin) to increase the variety of food
D: They develop a slender body that helps them to move with the current
OK, both of you die and let us know what happens.

I don't know why you started as an amoeba, but apparently you know how evolution works so I guess I'll vote on this one.

its a tie, so im gonna vote for D
The evolved amoeba changed its main structure of the body, instead of being circular it was rather long, and tender. This change allowed the amoeba to travel with the stream of the river, catching up with the algae on their way. Soon they would reach the oceans where the tender body formed a new function, the amoeba set up in big chains to protect each other from stronger liveforms. This protection worked well against the smaller predators, but now there was a threat in a different form. In this ocean there was a liveform similar to ours, only that they had sucking snouts. They quickly absorbed most of the algae arround here which was terrible for the amoeba as they could only devour algae. When hope was almost lost they were saved by another evolution.
A: Waste glands, to poison the water nearby
B: Develop spirilla
C: Become bigger, heavier and drop to the ocean floor
D: Develop a spitable spike (a spike that can be shot at enemies)
