Continued history won, so that’s it:
The Wexxian History. Part III
The Early Golden Age; the Founding of the Alliances and the Halcyon War.
The Joining of the C.A.B.:
With their new emotions, the Wexxians felt ready to join the galactic society. The Oifan-Umtag where starting an alliance with other species of similar beliefs called the Coadunation of Autonomous Beings. Or; C.A.B. for short.
A species called the Mallen had already joined this fledging alliance and the Wexxians decided that they would join too.
The Wexxians joined the C.A.B. as the third species and where made Head of Extraterrestrial Mining and Construction – HEMaC.
Despite having joined the Alliance, the Wexxians kept to themselves in the beginning, a small shyness combined with a minority complex due to their artificial nature made the Wexxians stay out of the way in the beginning.
During the same time as CAB was founded, another alliance was founded, the O.T.H.E.R. Alliance. What alliance that was founded firstly is a bit unclear, but there was rivalry from the beginning.
The rivalry gave birth to suspicion and it finally led to a cold war between the two factions.
The Wexxians did not approve of war, but they felt that they should help the CAB if a real war should break out. They began designing their first invention designed for combat, they designed the Enforcer fighter. A small maneuverable fighter class vessel with Ionic non-lethal weaponry. The Enforcer was designed as a police and patrol craft inside CAB territory. Although the Enforcer was welcomed by many of the CAB species, the Torpals where positively offended by the idea that they should receive military aid from another species. Luckily no diplomatic crisis ensued from this. The Enforcer never became more than a patrol craft to the other CAB species.
While tensions grew between the O.T.H.E.R and the CAB, some of the species of the alliances jumped off and joined a cooperation that was gaining power… The Halcyon Cooperation.
The Beginning of the Halcyon War:
Many species joined it and although things about the Halcyon were suspicious, the Wexxians had not expected, what they in fact where.
The Halcyon Corporation claimed the ViS homeworld. They deactivated their leader (a big computer) and replaced him with a Halcyon loyal ViS.
However, the V-Men were not infiltrated by Halcyon and downloaded the Leader. They needed to find technology compatible with the Leader's software to allow it to reveal the secrets of Halcyon, so they delivered the Leader to the Wexxians, knowing that they had expertise in transferring programmes between hardware.
Once downloaded, the ViS leader revealed to the Wexxians that the Halcyon corporation used behaviour altering parasites to pave the way for their takeover of planets. The Corporation itself recruited new members by brainwashing and propaganda, the key to breaking its grip over the infected alliance members was to find a way to cure the parasite.
The Wexxians where horrified of learning this, while the Halcyon did not pose a threat to the Wexxians, they could not stand idly by while their friends where becoming enslaved… The Wexxians took a stand and called out to all about the workings of the Halcyon, they spread the message in all communication channels… the Wexxians took on the Halcyon.
The response was immediate; species rallied together and formed the LAH: League Against Halcyon. The Wexxians where proclaimed the leaders of it and they where propelled into power, for the first time, the galaxy looked to the Wexxians for leadership and hope.
This… scared the Wexxians halfway out of their shells! And their first attempts where clumsy at best. While they where the official leaders of the LAH, they did not do much except warning the others and formulating containment protocols and security procedures.
The Wexxian leader at that time; Alpha-Zeti-214, said to the LAH:
“The Halcyon seeks to dominate all life. That, the Wexxians cannot allow.
We must gather our allies and stand together!”
The Wexxians of the early Golden Age, where maybe not the grand leaders, but they meant well and their love for freedom and life was one of the things that kept the galaxy going, during the darkest hours of the Halcyon war.
While the members of the LAH began preparations, the war broke out…
The Caarnth Crisis:
A species known as the Caarnth, panicked when they learned of the Halcyon parasites, and they began deploying a genocideal toxin on their worlds to rid them of the Halcyon parasites and avoid that they spread. The LAH, and the Wexxians in particular, tried to prevent mass genocides and send a peacekeeping force to the Caarnth systems.
The peacekeeping force consisted of Torpals, Squillisk and the Naucean Mothersphere: Serina.
The Wexxians send their new large transport; the Dreamer, captained by Xeno-Bravo-542 to supply and assist the LAH forces.
The Wexxians did not have a military, despite their new invented Enforcer fighters, so they helped with what they could, while others did the fighting.
The Dreamer supplied the peacekeeping forces with:
100 ton Wexxian refined steal.
Nutrient supplies for food synthesisers.
4000 new CAB Enforcers
Fuel: Gas suitable for plasma and Anti-mater cells.
Enforcer Schematics, Wexxian energy manipulation, advanced Wexxian logistic systems, evolution algorithms, cultural data and galactic cartography.
They also send some engineers to help with upgrading the Naucean Mothersphere’s energy reactor and instruct Naucean pilots how to use the CAB Enforcer.
This was the first time that Wexxians cooperated with other sentient beings to reach a common goal. As the Naucean captain said:
“This was a great day for both Nauceans and Wexxians as well a CAB as a whole”
There was an unstable truce between the Caarnth, The LAH and the Halcyon. The Caarnth had negotiated evacuation of the planet with the Halcyon, but tensions remained in the air and the Freighter containing the Anti-Halcyon Toxin hovered in the upper atmosphere.
The Wexxians contacted the Nauceans and the Mallen and asked them to look into the possibilities of making an airborne virus engineered to kill the parasite.
The unstable relation became worse when the news that the Sombreron home planet Shivaruu had been destroyed. Most of the surviving Sombrerons where under Halcyon control.
The Battle of Thishen:
The Halcyon grew tired of the LAH’s interference in their expansion plans; they needed to break both the spirit and the infrastructure of the Anti-Halcyon League.
They targeted the species with the weakest military and who supported the LAH with the most recourses… the Wexxians.
The Wexxians where as the only species, completely immune to the workings of the Halcyon and therefore would be the last species standing against Halcyon if the parasite should spread and was therefore the greatest threat to them if the Nauceans and the Mallen did not find a cure for the parasite.
The Halcyon forces dispatched an invasion force to a planet known as Aegis. The LAH forces rushed to the area to help, but the attack was a decoy.
While the LAH forces charged at Aegis, the bulkhead of the Halcyon fleet headed to the Thishen system, the home system of the Wexxians.
A Halcyon controlled Icthian/Urshan fleet jumped into the system. It only took minutes to raze the outer factories and colonies the Wexxians had in free space.
The Wexxian leader; Alpha-Zeti-214, called out for help on all frequencies, the military of the Wexxians where not anywhere near sufficient to combat the first wave of Halcyon ships. The Wexxians had still not gotten used to having emotions; this was the first time they feared for their lives. They panicked and called for help.
Within the first hour of the battle, the Wexxian casualties had gone beyond 7000. The Wexxians fell back to their ancient home; the Originator station and tried to hide in the second asteroid field in the system.
The Caarnth where the firsts to send assistance; they dispatched 30 drone cruisers, but it would take to long before they would arrive if the Wexxians where to hold out on their own.
The Oifan-Umtag Galactic Navy send the next reinforcements to aid the Wexxians; They send; 3 Assault Cruisers, 8 Frigate Enforcers, 3 Medical Frigates and 1 Frigate Interceptor. The Oifan-Umtag’s main function in the battle was to monitor all transmissions in the system and jam all non-CAB transmission to outside the system.
While the Urshans engaged the new coming LAH ships, the Icthians tried to search for the Wexxians in the asteroid belts.
In the meantime, the Wexxians directed the Alliance forces to create a defensive perimeter under the Originator Stations shield with the smaller ships while the capital class ships where send to another location to be able to work together more effectively. The Wexxians also send ships to repair and refuel the allied ships.
The Squillisk send 10 light boarding crafts to help the Wexxians. A few minutes later, Admiral Jian Mo of the Auyuelcliads, arrived with 5 Heavy Battleships and 10 Enforcer Frigates.
The Halcyon forces where getting desperate, they knew that it would only be a mater of time before the rest of the LAH would realise that Aegis was a distraction and they would rush to the Wexxians aid. Especially the Urshans where dangerous, their parasitic infection where lethal to them because of their dual brains. As a result, all the infected Urshans where dying, but they kept fighting despite their condition.
The battle became even worse when the Halcyon infected ViS fleet arrived, lead by Captain Vit-37.
In the midst of the Battle, the Wexxians heard word the Torpals. They had only learned of the Halcyon attack on Thishen and where sending a force of 30 warships.
Meanwhile, in Caarnth space; The Naucean Mothersphere was preparing to depart to Thishen to save the day. However, the Wexxian modifications to the power generators went wrong; the Nauceans lost some vital instructions from the Wexxian engineers during translation. This overloaded the cold fission reactors on board and caused the Serina to explode and then implode, taking all the Torpal and Wexxians ships along with the neighbouring planet with it. All that was left was a black hole.
To this day, the Wexxians still blame themselves for this tragedy.
All was not lost; In the Thishen system, the Torpal Warships had arrived and had begun doing what Torpals do best… No, its not knitting, its kicking but!
In a savage and brutal display of power, each warship completely emptied half of their missile tubes towards the Urshan and Kaldri ships.
Roughly, 15,000 missiles blazed across empty space and collided with the enemy fleets in a dazzling series of explosions.
The Wexxians received a transmission from the Naucean Commander Mysticeti of the Mother Sphere – Sina; they where working on a cure for the parasite.
Tired with hiding, the Wexxians emerged from the asteroid belt, the fortress shield of the station was their only defence and the only defence mechanism the Wexxians had learned to operate on the Ancient station.
The Icthian fleet was fast to jump on the Station, the Torpals send 12 of their ships to deal with them, but where forced to recall four of them to help combating the ViS, who where proving difficult to deal with. They attacked the Torpals ships engines and disabled them.
The Wexxians knew that the Icthians would get to them first, even if the Station pressed its engines to the max to get to the Torpal reinforcements. So they tried a risky tactic with the Torpal ships. They had them make a micro-hyperspace jump to get closer to the station. It worked and the ships reappeared right between the Originator and the charging enemy ships. The Torpals began “Taking out the trash”.
The Torpals used EMP charges to even the odds with the ViS. The ViS retaliated by boarding their ships with their Zero-Point Spec-Ops.
The Nauceans called and informed that they had found a medium affective cure for the parasite and that they would arrive as soon as they could.
Five Torpal Warships where ripped to shreds by the ViS weapons. The Torpals, now enraged with the destruction of five of their ships at once, went berserk. Hundreds of missiles began streaking through the air, and turret fire began blasting into the sides of the ViS strippers. All hell broke loose.
Just outside of the battle, space rippled and the Naucean Mother Sphere - Sina arrived with the Oifan-Umtag ships and Mallen Medical Transport orbiting the ship… They had arrived with the cure!
The Icthian commander gave the order to ram the Wexxian Originator Station, they where out of missiles and hoped that this could ensure victory for the Halcyon. But the ships where stopped before they could reach the Originator.
Having learned the allies had found a cure, the uninfected ViS V-Men snuck aboard the ships in the Thishen system; deactivated them, and introduced the Naucean cure.
After some time… the most of the Parasites had died and the battle was over.
The End of the Halcyon War:
The Cure was spread by the LAH forces, within years, the parasite had been completely eradicated in the known parts of the galaxy.
After the battle the captains and crews where invited to the Originator for debriefing and repairs/refuelling of their ships.
The Wexxian leader himself took the task of debriefing the commanders of the allied ships, he talked about how they where all an interstellar family, how this was a new beginning and that the universe was a dangerous place but if they stood together they would prevail.
The debriefing ended with the awarding of medals to the captains and officers who had made it possible to achieve victory, the Wexxian Star was given to all the commanders and the Torpal commander was also given the Wexxian Tri-Halo for acts of singular daring, courage and homicidal insanity.
The debriefing did not take long, but the after battle party took almost two days; in witch substantial amounts of alcoholic Grobut and other near illegal alcoholic liquids where consumed, the Wexxian responded to this by decreasing their behaviours inhibiter's and joining the fun!
The prise of repairing the Station after the party rivalled the cost of rebuilding all the Wexxian installation the Halcyon forces had destroyed.
The days where also marked by many religious sermons, in remembrance of the fallen. Priests from the different religions where given rooms aboard the Originator, to act as temporary churches/temples while the proper rituals where conducted.
The wounded from the battle where treated by the Mallen doctors/healers but since their ship was not big enough to hold all the wounded and in-treatment Halcyon infected, the Wexxians also set up a large medical facility on the Originator while the got treated and transported away.
Already the hour after the battle had ended the Wexxians began the process of rebuilding their infrastructure, and the day after they sent transports to the systems tainted by the war to help rebuild.
Each year after the war, The Wexxians received gifts from the Nauceans in the holiday where they mourn the losses of the Serina catastrophe.
The leader of the ViS had been destroyed in the Serina explosion. However, while in the care of the Wexxians, the leader agreed to take part in a highly experimental procedure. The leader's program was bred with that of a Wexxian scientist in the way that Wexxians usually breed with each other. Observation by the Wexxians and ViS technicians revealed that the programme was viable and would undergo a juvenile phase like all Wexxians. The upbringing of the Heir was split between its Wexxian parent and the automated systems used to bring up and educate juvenile ViS. In time, it took up the duty of running the ViS Administration. These events strengthened ViS-Wexxian relations at a time when the ViS had the animosity of most of the CAB.
Once again, Pease was present in the Galaxy… And the Wexxians looked forward to a bright future…
