How many roads must a bacteria walk down........
« on: May 08, 2005, 10:07:05 am »
......before you can call him a Galactic God?

I know a lot of the detail is still hazy regarding some points of the game, im sure at E3 more will be cleared up, but do we yet know how many evolutions or generations it takes to get between each stage i.e. From bacteria up to 3D water swimming creature up to land creature to sentience etc.

Dont know if anybody has any idea what will be happening just a thought, i have another query which i think i will do as a seperate post but again it may be answered at E3 or in the run up to the actual launch.

Since Will cheated we have no idea. You just have an egg in the first few bits after you eat enough stuff...Very detailed eh?

I just hope it isn't going to be as much of a pain is 'levelling' a SIMs job the in The Sims. (You need six friends, must work 12 hours a day, clean the house, fix the toilet, and it takes to 30 minutes to pee, 45 to get dressed and in to the car, there are no 'weekends', etc... )

Will said that the bacteria game would be like PacMan, so I'm guessing the bacteria stage is primarily for your ot familiarize yourself with the evolutional editor (hence the fact that the tidepool is in 2-d... one less dimension = a lot less confusion.  He has pretty much said that hte first four stages are merely the game leading up to the sandbox/galaxy exploration sim.  So I wouldn't be surprised if it only took a few hours to grow from bacteria to space-civ.  But I would also guess that once you hit that point, you'll be able to re-visit all the other points are you're experimenting with genetics etc.  We'll see.  I hope he balances the pride of building a species while not drawing it out.

this all sounds fairly plausible i suppose, i think it may be just eat X amount of lower life forms in order to get the next evolutionary stage, evolve life form, repeat. BUt it should get more interesting when it gets to the community stage when you have lots of creatures to control there may be more interesting things to do to level up.

I think when it comes to weapons there will be a set "technology tree" where we may be able to set our own path to what types of stuff we can do but when it gets to the intergalactic stage we may be fairly limited to more basic mega weapons, but it may be more configurable but i suppose with most things we will have to wait and see

I think it will be more of a tech-web than a tree. Straight up trees would make people unhappy when they find out they can't build the Super-Drive because they didn't research firewood when they should have. By UFO stage I would say that most if not all techs are either researched or able to be researched.

That would be a fair assumption.  Hopefully, weapons too will have full customizability.  Someone pointed out that Will visited a planet that wielded tridents instead of spears.  Same basic weapon, but tridents are three times as fun... I wonder if melee weapons are dynamically modeled just like the species themselves.  Even if we had a limited set of weapons (melee, ranged, tank, plane, UFO, planet killer, etc.) being able to edit these weapons or effects would be pretty cool.

Your thinking that we get a weapon type and get the form it?
Game gives you : You form it in to
Pointed stick : Spear, Trident, Glaive-Glaive-Guisarm-Glaive-Halberd (AD&D humor)
Gun : Musket, Flintlock, boomstick, etc...
Automatic Rifle: M-16, AK-47, Hakim, FN49, etc...
Tank: Sherman, T-34, box of Armor with pointy things
and so on?

I'm hoping the pace of the game is between 4 hours and 40 hours to 'complete' a given species/game, that is to say you can just buzz through and get to any section you want quite swiftly, or you can take =days= and still have new things to do with a given species. I don't want to play PacMan for 2 1/2 hours, but then I don't want to go from fire to UFOs in only 15 minutes either.

I can just imagine cut-scenes between the evolutionary stages being narrated by animal and science show hosts (or Others):

Nigel Marvin - "Hi. I'm Nigel Marivn. Look at this beautiful creature. I found it in a car park. It was parking cars."

Steve Erwin (croc hunter) - "Isn't this thing a beauty? Crickey, shes gorgous! I need to be careful, as one right-click from her could be fatal! This thing is wonderful, nothing like what we have in the Outback of Austraaaaailia."

Peter Meulenox (voice is close enough to Nigel Marvin's, and it might be his best current work) - "You've been making a creature, but what is it really all about anyways? I'm here not to show you what you've done, but how I thing you might want to play."

Frank Oz (Yoda, Animal, other muppets) - "Never its mind on where it is going, but only on where it is this creature. I cannot teach it. Too evolved, yes too eolved to begin the training."

Daivd Goelz (voice of Gonzo the Great) - "WOW! It's no chicken, but hey! Watch as I fire myself out of this cannon in to a pile of banana peels while paint a picture of the creature in water-colors."

Steve Glicker (aka GamingSteve) "Hi, and welcome to another evolutionary stage of your creature. Sorry about the background noise, but that is life in Spore with gunfire and creature crunching other creatures with the occasional UFO attack. On today’s show we'll have a retro review of your creatures origins followed by 'name that sound' a game where you try to guess what bodily function or action creates a sound from your creature. If you win you get an extra evolution point. Lastly we'll follow-up with a review of the Evolution of the Xbox. So, lets see what else there is..." (of course these cut scenes will take just over an hour,  but you only get them once a week. :)

Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson) - "Wow man. Cool!" (creaure dies) "I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can prove anything."

others..
Cree Summer (Number 5 from KND, Foxxy Love, voice from several video games (Final Fantasy, forgotten realms...))-
Mel Blanc - if only - R.I.P
Chris Rock and Bill Cosby
Penn and Teller (well, Penn at least)
Mike Tuttle from Orange county chopers.
Merl Perkins (Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdoms)
Bill Dana (aka Jose Humeniz. the terrified astronaut)
I'm sure there are more I could come up with. I'm sure it won't happen. Would be cool though.

Dude, if Steve gets laryngitis sometime, I think we know who to turn to if he needs somebody to fill in.

Oh, and

Bill Cosby

.........before his nagging paramecium girlfriend convinces him to stop and ask directions?
Don't know guy, most of these posts are pure speculation and fantasy. We're all hoping E3 will clear up a lot of our questions, or at least give us some new data to munch on. If not, we'll storm the battlements! "No Quarter!!!!" (All I've got is nickels)
