Well, this helps a bit. I've seen a few of these already, but that's not really the point now, is it? Hmmm.....I'm still having trouble thinking of something unique, though..(I'll come up with something evetually.)

kewlness :) and whats with the wierd lines on the pics? is that because you viewed them on the computer or something?

anyway, some of them are obviious because they are variations of what exists on earth such as D3 and D2 which are variations on the snake tougne and what moths use for smell, respectively.

could you add in the description for some of those that are less obvious? and the one for echolocation just shows an alien dolphin and an alien bat, which is probably biased because those are the only two uses of echolocation/sonar that we know of, great example though.

and where can I get this book? the library?

The lines are from the print of the book. Its not the best printing quaity, then scanning picks up on it.

The descriptions are really long, but i will try. What other onese are you having troubel with? Here is D.

Quote
D. Smell
Because chemicals and substances from plants and animals are suspended in the atmosphere near ground level Sspecized receptors in antenae (1 & 2) and tounges (3) act as "noses" for some insects on Earth. Such a systerm could be used by extraterrestrial life. A general-purpose nose (4) is compared with a highly sensitive snout (5) designed to itentify very subtle smells.

I bought the book off Amazon.com

Here ya go! :)

H. Non-Optical Radiation

The human eye is sensitive to what we call visible light. Scientists call it optical radiation, but there is a whole spectrum of other radiation: infared, ultraviolet, microwave, radiowave, x-ray and gamma ray.

Infrared radiation is heat radiation. Humans can deel it at cloase range, but creatures with infrared-sensitive eyes (1) could scan the landscape to detect the body warmth given off by other animals. Some alien lifeforms (2) ight specialize in ultraviolet-light imaging, as have some insects on Earth, which enables them to locate certin plants that are bright in ultraviolet light. A microwave-detection vision system (3) would be effective on a planet with a thick, smoggy atomosphere. There might be distinct advantages in an ability to generate and transmit microwaves (4).

hey hydro, i got that book extraterrestrials, a field guide for earthlings, and it has some awesome drawings in it...

When did you get it? I got mine last xmas.
