New creature-The Vashean
« on: March 25, 2006, 09:50:53 pm »
This is my creature, the Vashean

it has no eyes and a round hea-screw it, on with the picture:

it uses the arm at it's end as a well, arm. The cuttlefish looking thing on it's head is it's mouth, and it moves with 100's of tiny little legs on it's bottom.

more info to come.

I thought so too. The creature is very good, but a name change could be good, to avoid confusion.

EDIT: Vashean, fine with me.

I think its a cool creature and the name don't need to be changed either

as it will be many creatures with different names... many names will be similiar to each other

imagine 100 people spell their version of Naucean or a Pickachou

Enable to avoid confusion, I have changed the 'N' to a 'V'.

Update on how they see exactly:

The Vasheans use small gill shaped holes on their 'face' to send out certain beacons of sound and can 'see' by how the beacons return to them, they have also found out that certain materials/minerals react in certain ways to this beacon, which is something I will be going into when I am at the point of their vehicles.

I could be wrong 'cause I don't know the actual pronounciation of the words, but other than spelling there isn't enough similarity between the two names to cause confusion. Naucean I've thought of as being "now see un", and this new one I read as "na she un". I guess there's similarity there too, but still don't think it'd warrant a name change. As someone else already mentioned people are going to be coming up with 100's upon 100's of creatures, there's no way every single individual can come up with a completely original name that sounds nothing like anything else. Same goes for this whole originality business. There are only so many original ideas in the world. Even if a person isn't aware of it they could think up something someone else has already thought of, without the two people ever having met or first seen the other's idea. Or even subconcsously draw their inspiration from a prexisting source without realizing it. I know for a fact I've done that myself. And the bottom line is we are all human, the majority of our ideas will be human ideas, taken from things that exist on Earth because that's all we know and it's easiest to use.

Creature looks cool by the way.
There is a method to my madness. That method is in and of itself quite mad, but it is method nonetheless.

Naucean  is pronounced the same way your pronounce Nautilus (Not-L-Es) and Cetacean (Si-Ta-Shen). Thus Naucean (Naw-Shen). Which also sounds like "Nausea", which is a pun to all the oral tentacles comming out and looking like it is vomiting.

Whenever I get un-lazy enough to scan it in, I will have  a basic evolution chain for them up.

I LOVE this creature. Very original, and I like how the mouth is kind of shielded. Also, the echolocation idea is original... I really hope we can make no-eyed creatures in the game. I think it would be fun to create a creature with no sight and amazing hearing then see how it fares.

Thats a verry original idea.  Its written probally works by putting indents on the surface, then using echo-location 'see' the symbols.
