Battlefield 2 will be out some time this year, but not for a while.  I'd get BF1942 - i really loved it until my copy stopped working, so yeah, i recommend it.

So far my understanding is that BF2 will be out sometime in June. Even so, BF1942 is really fun, especially at a LAN party. Nothing can compare to loading up into a jeep and driving full speed into your friend's tank, laughing like a maniac.

Used to love the Jappy levels where you could just take a jeep and roam through the jungle like a lunatic... wish my copy worked :(.

I really loved the sea battles. I still remember all the times I played Midway at LAN parties and was the only person who knew how to work the subs properly. It was a definite advantage, and it made for some funny moments when I accidentally surfaced a bit too close to another sub and ended up ramping onto it.

Yeah, if I were you I'd wait for Battlefield 2.  I've had the game for a couple years now, I've really enjoyed it.

I haven't played the game in a while, but I've gotten a good share of playing time.  50 hours +, its just that fun.

You can be a sniper, foot soldier, whatever.  You can transport your buddies, fly and do air raids, dog fight, man the AA gun, command a boat, drive tanks, apc's, medic, so much to do and its great fun online.

Making movies was a fun part of the game (I've been in a nice share), it wasn't in the game, in Battlefield 2 will implement a video program in game where you can save it to disk using very low disk space.

See you in BF 2. ;)

Gfx and such are a bit outdated, but I LOVED BF1942.  However, I didn't play it online with strangers, I only played it with friends over LAN or closed net game.  The AI gets easy after a while, and they're not the smartest.  Single player makes you feel like Rambo in a world of lackeys, but it's nonetheless fun to be a sniper and watch your competition fall like dominoes.

Single player really sucks.  Howver, lan/multi play is the best part of the game.  If you can I would reccomend that you get secret weapons (the expansion) because the jetpack rox your sox.  I got a bundle with road to rome and 1942 fairly cheap.
