This is the method I'm trying to master:

1)Open paint.
2)Break out the line tool.
3)Choose a non-black color and start drawing the basic outline.

4)Keep refining the outline until you're satisfied.

5)Remove all the unnessecary lines(and usually convert the line you want to black)

6)Now color(I'm still teaching myself how to do this).

It's all practice.
You just have to do it a lot.
I was the worst artist ever then I just drew a couple things a day for a month or so and I am not nearly half as bad as I was before.

The best thing you can do is try to trace a few good pictures and your hands will learn from that.
So uh....what happens when your creature won't stop jumping off cliffs like crazed lemmings?

To me it's skill that you can get from drawing on paper, It helps you visualize better, the Drawing on paper though that takes practice, once you get the hang of it go on paint, my Anubian was my first ever drawing on paint (besides sticks but that does not take skill). what it does take is patience. I draw on paint by making the basic skelaton ( A.K.A sticks or just lines that fit into what you want), then draw a basic version of what you want, then erase what you dont like and fix it, repeat until you get what you desire then clean up the black spots and color it if you want. If all works well you just made a masterpiece on paint, the cons of this stradegy is that it takes a while and leave you tired and with a broken hand :-\.
