I seem to recall missingno randomly turning into other Pokemon.

There was another exploit wher, after catching missingno, you would swim on the border between land and sea at the island place, and you could catch any pokemon at humungous levels. There were all these rumours you could get Togepi and Maril this way.

None of these rumours were at all true though.  However, there is a way to exploit the game, and catch Mew this way.  I don't think there's a single person who with Red/Blue that doesn't have a Mew now.  The crap about him destroying your save file, also wasn't true.  The most that could happen is that your hall of fame would look very funny, but it certainly doesn't delete your file.

sometimes missingno does destroy your file, sometimes he destroys your cartridge. sometimes he doesent do anything. its random because missingno was suposed to be an error message. missingno just manifests as a pokemon so you can catch him. but its really not worth it to catch an error message. here is every thing you need to know about missing number.

its a pretty good read ^_^

You can get pokemon to appear at the missingno place genrally whatever pokemon appeared in the area you were in before you went to the coast is what shows up so you can get safari pokemon that way.

No, sorry, that's just not true.  The most that can happen is that it'll screw up the hall of fame, and sometimes a few other graphics but they always go back to normal eventually if you stop using the glitch.  All this "10% chance of your game pack never working again" is complete garbage.  How would someone even go about calculating that?

I'm sure the 10% is an estimate based on people saying they have full on balls up glitches compared to a few hall fo fame problems not an actual stat.

missingno is a glitch, its impossible to calculate the data of missingno to a percentage. missingno is just an error message, so catching him is a bad idea. there are so many variants of missingno that it is truely impossible to predict. it depends, every cartridge is somehow uniqe so he might, he might not. but please remember, when you catch him, make sure hes not lvl 0, or he will crash the game.

Posting to refute the "missingno doesn't screw up your game beyond the hall of fame" claim. My game was screwed up to the point where I couldn't go past the 2nd gym without it restarting. Of course, I pushed missingno to the limit. I had crazy battles where I was fighting oak, and he had above level 100 poke's, ending in a missingno and my game freezing... yeah... that's probably what killed it.
