That's old news (it's from 4 weeks ago), and a planted picture by Microsoft. That is not what the Xbox 360 will look like (well, I'm 99% sure that is not what it will look like).

If anything, this is what the Xbox 360 will most likely look like (right under our noses all along):

Yeah, but I think the Xbox 360 is going to be a little bit bigger! ;D

On a sidenote, if you ever get a chance make sure to visit the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. I went a few years ago and it was freaking amazing. The coolest part is that they have an actual Saturn V rocket on its side in the museum portion. You can not comprehend the size of this thing. It's as tall as a 40-story building! Amazing.

Oh yeah, and that thing you have a picture of? The Walker I believe it's called, again, you can't believe the size of this thing. Everything there is just insanely huge.

Oh yeah, and I posted what many believe is the actual design of the Xbox 360...

Looks nice, considering i'm hopefully going to get one.  Steve, what price do you reckon we can expect it to be at first?  What is the usual?  I'd just like to know how much i'll potentially have to put aside for one.  Cheers.

X-Box was originally $550 CAD I think? Eww....Gamecube was originally 300 or 350 CAD...I'm guessing X-box 360 will be between 300-450 CAD. I could be totally wrong though. My suggestion is don't get it for x-mas if it comes out before or wait for the ps3 to come out and get 360 then.

I would expect the price to be the usual starting price of whatever that is. Isn't it $200 or $250 or something like that? I never have bought a console when it was brand spanking new, so I don't remember. I do know that the design I posted would be upwards of a couple billion, but at least you can take it anywhere you want, provided you have the patience for it to get there.

Kennedy Space Center IS very awesome, I live in Florida so I suppose I could go there right now, but it is pretty late, and I've been there before, so I'm not sure about that. I was definitely impressed with the Saturn V rocket, and when I realized the fact that that's the rough size of the mechs in Armored Core, I gained a whole new appreciation for the size of those things.

No idea. Figure the "basic" version (without hard drive and backwards compatibility) will probably be around $249-$299. The deluxe version with the hard drive and other stuff will be around $100 more than the basic version. This is just a guess but the original Xbox price (and PS2 price) was $299 when they first came out so it is reasonable to guess that the Xbox 360 will start around the same price.

Ah, i see.  I listened to the podcast #9, and still don't know what you mean by backwards compatibility - do you mean that the console can play games from the previous console if it has it?  Also, what's so significant about a hard drive for your Xbox?  Why can't one just buy a memory card?

Where does the "360" come from?

I think they're trying to say it's a revolution (1 revolution is 360 degrees) because it'll contain full profiles, HD support, supposed wireless controllers... all that good stuff. Then again, if you make a 360, aren't you right back where you started? why not call it the XBox 180? :P

I read somewhere that they chose 360 because 360 degrees is one revolution.  So this title is not only to make it look on-par to the PS3, but the Nintendo Revolution as well.

But wouldn't Microsoft want it to be better than, not on par with, the PS3 and Revolution?

You would think that, but all Microsoft tends to copy the competition, with some changes...ever compare Windows to Mac OS? Recycle Bin->Trash Can, Start Menu on bottom rather than top, desktop icons on left rather than right, white font on black background for terminal, the list goes on...

I HATE iPods and this looks just like one... with some green.  I still love the box-ey, horse-drawn goliath that is the original XBox.  This new one screams "I got an XBox 360 over a PS3 because it looks cuter  :-* "  I want something that looks badass, not something that my sister would use to decorate her bedroom with.

I picked up on the genesis of the 360 branding somewhere. I think it was the OurColony video said that basically, 360 was the best moniker in focus groups. Just about everyone gave it a different connotation. Some said it reminded them of a ring e.g. commitment and stability while others said that it made them think of something being complete or perfect.

Basically, they saw that it allowed consumers to draw their own conclusions about what the name means and ran with it. Even the design of the machine itself doesn't really make more than vague suggestions about what it means to you, especially if you consider the physical lines and color of the hardware. I think the advent of integrated wireless controllers helped a lot with this.

To go completely off topic, I think the PS3's design is a statement to its raw power, but it also makes it somewhat intimidating. As much as I love the PS3's hardware, I think the 360 wins when it comes to design. I doubt industrial design will affect console sales, but I think it shows that MS put a lot of thought into making the design sell the console as much as the hardware itself.
kthxbye

What are you talking about?  The PS3 and XB360 look the same.  One is concave and the other is convex shaped though.
