I am a TV outcast! Mock my shame!
« on: March 16, 2005, 08:24:09 pm »
It's true. I have (essentially) no TV.

Don't worry... I'm not some grumpy Luddite, it just kinda happened. I used to have DISH, but then my neighbor's trees grew in. I didn't want to pay a couple hundred to trim my neighbor's trees, so I ditched DISH to get cable. But then I never got around to it, and now, three years later I get PBS, staticy NBC, and that's about it... And for the most part, I'm on my computer so much I don't miss it so much.

It's kinda fun because when I go on vacations, everyone wonders why I park in front of the tube in rapt fascination at "Pimp My Ride" instead of going to the beach. Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

We should create a fanclub, pfellah. Let's call it TOUFE (the Television Outcast's United Federal Empire). Pronounced as: tough.

How true. 500 channels and not a single thing to watch.

EDIT: Except on Friday nights.

Why do you park on a driveway and drive on a parkway?

I watch maybe three shows - Simpsons, Enterprise, and Mythbusters. Its all I need, but I would probably survive without telivion access, as long as I had a way to get video news and a pleasant dose of advertising :)

I spent my adolescence not being allowed to watch tv during the weekdays and I have to say I'm kind of glad.  The only show I was allowed to watch was PBS's Mystery! with my family.  I'm not entirely sure what years of Poirot and Inspector Moore did to my burgeoning psyche but it was a good time all around, I have to say.  Now, when the weekend came, I binged like a bus full of fat camp kids released into a Chinese buffet.  Regardless, I stand by the idea in principle....mostly...-leeman

For a long time we just had the basic four channels, and one was always static.. we couldn't get cable in our area, then we end up getting a satelitte and it was great except we still had to use the antennea for local channels..*static* and if it stormed.. no TV.. so finally cable was available along with high speed internet.  I still watch my local NBC alot and some HBO but if I had to choose.. the internet would rule over the TV..
