A friend of mine loves him.  Desolation and The Stand are supposed to be really good.

I love Stephen King..

The Shining was the scariest book that I ever read.. meaning while I was reading, I got scared.  I was disappointed with the movie version with Jack Nicholsn and Shelly Duval, the casting sucked.  The story did not flow like the book although there were some good parts. IMO
The Dark Tower series is great.  Very different from his normal scary book and definately worth a read. I have not finished the last of them yet but its on my to do list.
The Green Mile was one of his best.
Misery is the one book I had a hard time getting through.. I don't think I ever finished it.
The Stand was awesome, read it twice once the newer version came out with more pages than originally published.

Hmm. I've never read them.

What's the general idea?

ps. 'redrum' isn't anything like doublethink is it? I was seriously disturbed by that...

Read The Eyes of the Dragon, very very different from what he normally writes, but I really like this book (basically it's a fantasy book by Stephen King!)

I really liked IT was well, but I read it like 20 years ago when it first came out, so I might think of it differently now. I really love all of his short stories, check out those as well.

Needful Things - first Stephen King book I ever read. I have a whole library of his books.

Too bad they usually always seem to butcher them hardcore when they get made to movies.

I absolutely loved the Dark Tower books - I recommend them to any and everyone. They weren't scary, they were plausible, and sometimes scary in that plausible sort of way.

He did some of his best work as Richard Bachman. The Long Walk, and The Running man are two of his best. The dark half was pretty good, and IT was entertaining, if long.

I liked the book Thinner as Richard Bachman. Did you know that he used that name to see if he sold books because of his name or because the books were good. While the books did sell well as RB, the sales really took off once he was revealed as Stephen King.

I liked 'The Dead Zone' by Steven King but Cujo was a bit weird.
