I tried FoM but it was too overwhelming having to deal with MINING to get money, I couldn't figure it out and there was NO ONE around. Too time consuming for me, I'll stick to Battlefield 1942 thank you. All action no downtime. Although it did seem to have potential, I liked the MOST WANTED list, that would be cool to just murder everyone.

ok, Ive just been playing FoM. I created a character, did the tutorial, then walked round in circles for an hour trying to work out what the hell to do.

Playing FoM- it's an awesome game, but only for a pretty specific audience. Most of the players online are very mature, and helpful.
Give it some time until you figure out what's going on. Talk in Faction Chat and ask for help to do this the fastest.

ya if you ever see a guy named bwl2 99.996793% of the time its me.
If you see "pinstar" on an online game, 99% of the time it is me. I also use this exact name and avatar in other gaming forums.

There's also Shattered Galaxy. It's been free for a while now (since 2003) and provides free online fun if you can download the 170 mb client. They have free accounts and monthly pay account with a few perks. I think it's worth a look at sgalaxy.com.

I was one of the beta testers for it. I kinda stopped when it stopped being truly free, but it was fun while it lasted. I always hated how one of the factions always owned the crater due to the fact that it took them the shortest time to walk from their capital to the battlefield at the crater...allowing them to reinforce faster.

Ahh well.

What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

I also downloaded FoM. Pretty good game although I do have a few issues with it.
First and foremost, the start of the game is by no means user friendly. By this I mean you start with very limited cash, and once you complete a mission, rather than being awarded money right away, you wait up to 5-7 days to get paid. In the meantime, you're getting killed left and right by, in many cases, the same faction you're in. So finaly you get paid and you start by armor. Once again you get ganked and all your armor is gone.
Secondly, say I join a mission. Many of these are about an hour long, more or less. So lets say you're guarding the prison. The entire time you will be standing around a beam of light which teleports people in. Now I played for about 7 days for about 5 hours a day. The entire time I played, the prison was raided twice. Maybe I've been spoiled by games that dive right into the action, that let me start shooting the bad guys right away. But for 35 hours of game time, I saw two pieces of heavy action, which, being, poorly-equiped, I was killed in.
There are a few other menial issues I have with the game, not game stopping, but all that could break the camel's back. As with most MMOs, newbs are rampant, consistently bothersome. Deleting a character or dying permanently leads means you can't create another for 24 hours. Also, although many may enjoy RPing, its just not my bag, so this game is definatly not for power gamers like myself.
