Yeah, toppling a x1000 ton tower is very easy... ::)

I love the idea! Monolith plus size!

What about an earthquake knocking it down and then a bunch of stupid non sentient creatures accidentally turning it on as they climb on it.

well i think if they made the top part with strong alloys, im gonna bet they made the tower earthquake proof or something using other strong alloys...or they would scan the planet for geologic activity and put it in the least geologically active area

well that was why the top room was metal, so non-sentient creatures couldn't accidentally get into it; i.e. you'd need explosives or something along those lines to open it. plus they would observe the planet for a short time when they got the signal before actually attacking, to make sure they are worthy and all...

yes, that sounds nice, let's go with thatá ;)

well it would have to depend on how far a potential creature has to go before developing civilization which can be anywhere from a million to hundreds of thousands of years. They'd have less time to wait if the species on the planet had a definite stone age or bronze age technology at least before the species is advanced enough to activate the tower. Even then they'd have to wait thousands of years, so unless they are willing to wait tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands or millions of years, then they'd have to look for species that are moderately advanced with maybe medieval era technology with gunpowder, etc.

But they put these on every planet they see with sentient life, don't they? So they don't ignore the cavemen, because the cavemen have potential too. And if you are a space-faring galactic empire, then your probably stable enought o last a couple of thousand years.

thats sort of giving me an idea for a creature, they'd have a mindset that things take a long time and that the larger picture is not the fast, but the slower. they'll probably evolve from a slower moving creature like a turtle, thier reflexes are as fast as anything else but they have a heavy shell or something. or would that idea not work that well or dunno? anyway, its an idea. and thier lifespan is also long, up to 200 years in the wild and in the pre civilization era and up to 300 or more in the advanced era with more advanced medical tech.

also I'm starting to like jasc paint shop pro as my art medium

done hijacking the thread, sorry :)

wow brilliant idea. Reminds me about a show i watched, and some kids were left behind to see how they would develop. Not exactly with a tower but people watched them from space.

I must say these Torpal are getting my interested with each day.

Its a sort of perversion of the cliche of aliens setting puzzles or challenges for less advanced species and welcoming them to galactic civilisation when they succeed. very cool... sort of evil creatures arent they?

here is a Scylla-Class Bomber

Scylla Bombers were a short lived, though deadly, Torpalian bomber aircraft. On attack runs, fighter escorts would venture ahead of Scyllas to clear paths of anti-aircraft defenses. Once they had been cleared, a Scylla would lower its altitude down over enemy positions, and shoot 6 deadly streams of volatile chemicals, literally raining down fire upon its enemies. While being incredibly effective against massed infantry formations, the Scylla had numerous drawbacks. Its large wings, and extra weight for chemicals, required an especially large runway, both wide and very long. Also, if enemy defenses did manage to attack it, it was slow and very lightly armored, making it an easy target.

Cool! You'd have to clear out any defense first, since the smallest bullet would set the entire wing on fire, but if you attack civilian targets, then it's a hellbringer.

here is a Torpalian Knight, circa 300's AGS

by the 300's,in the time preceding the Big War, the more violent, new world Torpal had progressed to their equivalent of the middle ages. Torpalian suits of armor were large and bulky, as was the knight's sword, which required all four arms to properly use. Suits of armour such as this were only used for a few decades because, by the time they had begun to come into widespread use, the Original Torpal from Braham had begun conquering new world Torpals (a process that later led to the Big War). The Original Torpal were more advanced, and had already developed firearms and rudimentary flight (around pre-WWI technology). The new wrold Torpal's bulky armour was no use against OT weaponry, and so armour like this fell into dis-use, as the Torpals abandoned them for mobility/agility.
