Fire Emblem
« on: April 01, 2005, 11:46:00 pm »
Hmm, anyone heard anything new, interesting or secret about this? Anyone other than me looking forward to it? (The new GC version of course)

I really enjoyed Fire Emblem for the GB: SP, and some people on this forum seem to have access to....oooh, secret contacts and crazy underground sources.

I expect someone to yell out GC sucks, but I'd really like to know if anyone has a feeling about this game. I'm just too busy right now to keep up on everything that's interesting.

It's similar to Advance wars, except get characters with statistics instead of troops. Each character can level up and obtain additional stats making them stronger, and purchase/find new weapons (although there isn't many). The big thing is that if a character dies, that character DIES and is gone forever.

Here's some screens

Quite a good game (the GBA one)..you can probably find a ROM somewhere, although I'd have no idea where of course ;)

The game doesn't look very good to me right now, but it's being developed by Intelligent Systems, so I have no fear that it will be a decent game by the time it's released, which is November 7th according to gamespot.

..Apparently I have the ability to hunt down screenshots, but not look for the release date on gamespot. Man, now I feel dumb. Ya, the graphics don't look topnotch at the moment, here's hoping they get better.

Hmm, chess game...ya, it's kinda like that. Axe beats lance. Lance beats sword. Sword beats axe. Then with magic too to mix things up. And if you lose a unit it's for the rest of the game, and you can't save mid-battle. So you gotta consider each move and what's gonna happen. It's not THAT hard, but it definatly makes you be cautious.

I am looking forward to this game. The GB version was awesome. Hopefully it will translate to the GameCube smoothly (even if the graphics aren't the greatest of all time).

The trailer looked absolutely fantastic. The graphics looked kind of like a mixed bag. We saw the some of the same character stuff that was in the GBA game. And then there was also some really nice looking other parts. The battles didn't look too hot, but the other scenes looked great. I'm betting it'll look better after awhile.

But hey, gameplay is more important then graphics, and I'm sure it will shine on that aspect.

Say, I wonder if we could find a translation of that trailer anywhere...

Hmmm... looks very Tactics Ogre-ish.

You can view some movies at http://media.cube.ign.com/media/001/001982/vids_1.html. The game looks pretty good on the GameCube. Nice graphics and animations even though they are fairly simple-looking.

Thanks for the links, Steve. When watching the videos I was thinking of how it reminds me of the old-school rpgs I'd play when I was a kid (Crono Trigger). Seems neat all around. :)

It's supossedly coming out next month on the 17th! I'm really looking forward to it.

Like we've said, the in-game graphics don't look too hot, but those FMV cut-scenes look absolutely awesome. They are just incredibly beautiful.

And as for the gameplay, it's supossedly very similar to the GBA ones. But from what I've read about it from people who've imported it, and who have played the other ones that only came out in Japan, it's actually quite a bit deeper and more challenging.

I absolutely loved the first one on the GBA, and I think I'd better get the Sacred Stones to tide me over until this one comes out!

UPDATE: IGN just posted a really cool interview with some of Nintendo's localization team about Fire Emblem, and some gameplay videos from the English version. After reading the interview and watching those videos I'm more excited then ever! Check it out at http://cube.ign.com/articles/654/654502p1.html

UPDATE 2: GameSpot just posted another preview, and another video preview, and some good gameplay movies. Check them out at http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/rpg/fireemblemtracesoftheblueflame/index.html
