That's just crazy, I can't imagine that anybody can take anything he says seriously any more.

That guy is really pissing me off. I swear, if I were in a room alone with him, and a crowbar, half of the idiots in that room wouldn't make it. Maybe that's just my gamer talking though.

Gamespot, you fools!   You've given him MORE ATTENTION!

Waitasecond, that was just some blog?  To whom was this letter sent?  How the hell did Thompson hear about it?
Something smells fishy about all this.

This is one of those days. (to avoid confusion I mean I've seen several equally disturbing things today; not i'm gonna kill my self *rollseyesthinkingaboutthepoorpersonwhowouldhavethoughtthataboutme*)  I wonder what this persons situation was. Sad, but...something.

Just don't give him the attention he wants. Yeah, he may be a jerk, but he wants this attention, thats why he makes these outrageous remarks.

That is sad about that kid though.

Good Lord, thats a recipe for disaster:
1. People will just buy games from another state, itll be cheaper to get it shipped across the border. Bang goes Texas' game retail sector.
2. Companies will stop developing games in Texas
3. Duh, gee Rick! Dya think taxing Soda with sugar may lead to increased sales of soda with artificial sweetners proven to cause hyperactivity in children?
4. Most people who have abortions cant afford to pay $10000 for one. Up goes the rate of illegal back street abortions.

In regards to Jack Thompson. That guy is an insensitive *******. Although that part of the story has detracted from the part about the gross twisting of the stroy by the news company: The guy broadcasting his suicide from Bulgaria or some such crap.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

hmm, i'm opposed to property, so i think it should be taxed ;)  but only the million dollar mansions and such, not small family homes or low-mid income apartment complexes.
I have been told

that I've got a heart of gold
but I'm unable to share it with others

That original article was very sad.  :( Suicide is a permanant solution to a temporary problem. If you can give it some time, most problems will work themselves out. It's nice that his forum community tried to reach out to help but if someone wants to do that, you can't always help. JT's comments just further show how out of touch the man really is.  :-\

Just don't give him the attention he wants. Yeah, he may be a jerk, but he wants this attention, thats why he makes these outrageous remarks.

That kind of tax will never happen. He will never get elected. It is indeed ridiculous.

Jack thompson should really meet some of the people on this fourm. Well maybe not when they're in this mood at him, but he should. people like steve, LadyM, etc... may really change his opinion of gamers. Or he may meet someone like Wulf on here ignore everyone else and based his opinions off of that. Do you think thompson knows about gaming steve? He knows about Joystiq, (since it was confirmed that whole thing with the guy getting everyone riled up there in the comments section of something once, was actually him) and joystiq has definitly had it's fair share of stories linking to This site...

But That's really Insensitive. He's using someone's suicide to further his own agenda.
What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

I agree. I play GTA and love it, so do a couple of my friends, yet we're some of the most non violent people I know.

And you know how horrible it would be if game companies in Texas didn't develop games? It would mean no Retro Studios! Nooooooooo!

Like you said though, LadyM, this bill wont have a chance.

You know.  These politicians are probably the only people who could actually become violent by playing a violent video game.  Yeah really, 100% What the Goat Cheese [mmm yummy cheese  :)] Youuspect that people will still buy them? Yea like that will reduce property taxes.  Dumbest thing I've ever heard of.  It's just a dumb idea that wont work.

[EDIT] I was gonna fix Youuspect to You expect, but I think I like it.

you know i really don't know were to start on this i could rant i feel mad to do it but i won't.

First my Kuja105 rest in peace. i know how it feels to want to end your own life (I'm not going to go into details).

Man jack*ass*Thompson is a very cold and uncaring person. I find it very sad that he would sink so low to post some thing like that. To push your own agenda like that is sick and inhuman, this man will kick any one. I wounder if this man has an feelings what so ever other then greed and hatrid.
Thompson sure knows how to push peoples buttons and thats what he's doing now with that post.

Sorry that was all over the place.

Wow.  Just wow.

i can't believe how many people are trying to nail down videogames as detrimental in order to get votes...

...But I must say, it works for me, because publishers will start making more games that I'm old enough to play.
