The mystery game
« on: January 21, 2006, 06:31:53 am »
Right, I saw all these forum games, and decided that they look fun, so here's my attempt!

The basic premise is that you know nothing; although at first it is pure guesswork, later you will be able to start to figure out what is going on; I'll try not to give everything away, as when there's no mystery left, theres no game left  :)

Right, here we go...

-----

We are lying on the cold floor, after just waking up; our eyesight is blurry, and there are some muffled sounds.

What do we do?
A: Stand up
B: Try to make out sounds
C: Try to focus our vision
D: Shut our eyes and play dead

-----

I'll come back in a few hours, I might have to leave this a little longer if it fails to gather momentum fast enough though.

(moved into a new reply so everyone sees the topic has been upated)

The results are in!

Stand up: 1
Try to make out sounds: 1
Try to focus your vision: 3
Shut your eyes and play dead: 0

Okay;

With great effort, and a lot of stabbing pain, we manage to focus our eyes; everything is bright, there are flecks of white flitting past.
eye damage? No, its cold... Must be snow... are we outside? Where exactly are we? We are not given much time to ponder these questions, before a human form becomes visible in the distance, muttering to thierself, holding something. We feel around; there is some sort of recess behind us...

What should we do?
 A: Crawl into the recess
B: Stand up, Signal the stranger
C: Shut our eyes and play dead
D: Wait, think up more options

There's a 2-way tie between crawl and play dead; I'll wait a couple of hours for someone to break the tie, then I'm tossing a coin.

PS sorry about the double play dead thing, bit of a screw up whilst making the poll

Crawl into the recess: 3
Stand up, Signal the stranger: 1
Shut your eyes and play dead: 2
Wait, think up more options: 1

While the person is still in the distance, we begin franticly scrabbling toward the recess, arousing the attention of the stranger; thiey start running over, waving what is now recognisable as a gun; We get into the reess when they are just 10 feet away. The problem of our whether or not the recess is bulletproof does not have time to cross our mind before something grabs our ankle!

So, what should we do?

A: Attempt to break free
B: Allow ourselves to be dragged out, then surrender
C: Allow ourselves to be dragged out, then attempt to grab the gun
D: Try to kick the person with our other foot

Attempt to break free: 0
Allow ourselves to be dragged out, then surrender: 1
Allow ourselves to be dragged out, then attempt to grab the gun: 2
Try to kick the person with our other foot:3

We make a split-second decision, and attempt to kick the person with our other foot, taking a sharp jab at where we think their stomach should be; there is a cracking noise, as the blow lands a few inches above target; she collapses backwards onto the floor, gasping for breath and bleeding, and drops the gun. We pick up the gun.

So, what should we do?

A: Point gun at her, demand ansers
B: Shoot her
C: Disarm gun, throw it away, then ask what is going on
D: Run away

Point gun at her, demand ansers: 5
Shoot her: 1
Disarm gun, throw it away, then ask what is going on: 0
Run away: 0

We point the gun at the wounded assailant, and start demanding answers,
"WHO ARE YOU? WHO SENT YOU?"; As we look past the arrel of the gun, we see a look of fear come upon her eyes "No.. Please, god no.."; she begins crying gently. You look at her, reduced to a crying emotional wreck, she must have at least three broken ribs, and is bleeding profusley. Can she really be of any use?

What should we do?
 A: Continue the interrogation
B: Shoot her, put her out of her misery
C: Lower gun, attempt first aid
D: Walk off, she is of no signififcance

PS, I promise we'll actually get somewhere after this!

Continue the interrogation: 3
Shoot her, put her out of her misery: 1
Lower gun, attempt first aid: 2
Walk off, she is of no signififcance: 0

Not in the least surprising, well, on with the story!

We decide that showing feelings to someone who just tried to kill us is not a good idea, and continue with the interrogation. Shooting the gun an inch to the left of her head, we proceed to continue the barrage of questions. "WHO ARE YOU?"; "no.. please no, I can't answer you questions.. a lot of pain.." She mumbles inbetween gentle sobs; "I SAID WHO ARE YOU!", "my.. my name is sara.. sarah brown", she half-whispers "I a--" "WHO SENT YOU?", we demand, trying to ignore the half-meter wide area of red snow. She catches her breath just enough to say "they are.. over there..", and as she does, she just manages to point her arm in the right direction, before it goes limp.

I hope you lot are proud.
(okay, so it's just a story; but still!)

What should we do?
A: Walk in the direction Sarah pointed to
 B: Scout immediate area
 C: Check Sarah is dead
 D: Conceal Sarah's body

Well, depending on your choice, this time we can go into quite a different situation!

I vote B. Even if she's not dead, she's broken. She won't try anything.

And D is just stupid. There's a giant diameter of bloody snow all around her. Concealing the body won't do anything.

Change my vote to scout the area.  We have to leave Sarah alive to rescue us later when the mad scientist is about to lower us into a pit of sharks with laser beams on their heads.  See, she's out to avenge her fathers death at the hands of the aformentioned scientist who was out to steal his non-descript research.

...actually, I just won the game.  Lock this thread please

Walk in the direction Sarah pointed to: 0
Scout immediate area: 3
Check Sarah is dead: 3
Conceal Sarah's body: 1

But changing danzik's vote breaks the tie, in favor of scouting the area.

we decide that sara is either dead or dying, and scout the immediate area; the terrain is mostly plain snow, but there are somemounds and recesses thatcould be used to hide. We almost give the area the all clear, when you see something odd; a silvery patch on an otherwise white surface. We go over and wipe the snow off, revealing a metal ball, about the size of a crouched human; it is making a faint humming sound. It is odd, but not unprecidented, it could be field equiptment, a meterological sensor, anything really; is it worth our time?

What should we do?
 A: Kick it
B: Ignore it, and walk where Sarah ponted
C: Look for a crack to pry it open
D: Check sarah for interface equiptment

Sorry for the long wait, I have had a lot of coursework.

The results are in!

Kick it: 2
Ignore it, and walk where Sarah ponted: 0
Look for a crack to pry it open: 2
Check sarah for interface equiptment: 4

We decide that it might be worth checking Sarah's corpse for some kind of equiptment with which to access the device. We walk back up to her, and kneel down. We look in her front pockets, then we slowly unzip her jacket, and feel around inside it, feeling its blood saturated lining, checking for hidden pockets. And then, lifting up her shirt, we feel across her cold, bloody flesh. We withdraw our hands, partly shocked from touching the corpse. Although we found no interface equiptment, in a moment of madness we pocketed the dead woman's diamond ring from her third finger.

What should we do?

A: Go toward where she pointed
B: Put the ring back
C: Yell at the top of our lungs
D: Kiss Sarah

Okay, we have gone slightly mad, but I promise interesting consequences, whatever you choose.

Go toward where she pointed: 1
Put the ring back: 0
Yell at the top of our lungs: 0
Kiss Sarah: 3

We kneel down to Sarah, and as we do so we are overcome by a feeling of sadness, we are sure sarah feels the same, all alone in the snow. We slowly lower our face to sarah's, and press our lips against hers, and as we feel the coldness of her lips seep into ours, we feel the reality around us melt away, and come to the gradual realisation that we are lying in bed, infront of sarah. Our mind is still not all there, and we cannot quite remember why we are here, or why sarah is here.

What should we do?

A: Get up
B: Try to get back to sleep
C: Try to wake sarah
D: Try to gather thoughts

Grrr... I hate coursework!

Get up: 0
Try to get back to sleep: 0
Try to wake sarah: 1
Try to gather thoughts:3

We lie there in bed, half concious, trying to gather our thoughts; we remember sarah, where did we meet her? It was.. a meeting place, a bar or club perhaps? Maybe... We remember alcohol, lots of alcohol... And that's about it, on account of our splitting headache.

What should we do?

A: Get up, Find water
B: Get up, leave room
C: Get up, make breakfast
D: Stay put, wait for sarah to wake up

Well the group just imaginarily and subconciously destroyed her. The least we could do is make her breakfast.
What meme is relevant right now? Look, just imagine I'm riffing on that. Updating signatures is exhausting.

Do I have to flip a coin?

tl;dr. But with all those shiny symbols and numbers it's probably awsome.

Why does it take so long to break a tie?

The results are in!

Get up, Find water: 1
Get up, leave room: 0
Get up, make breakfast: 3
Stay put, wait for sarah to wake up: 2

We slowly get up, trying not the wake Sarah, and creep into the kitchen. Whos house is this? Who cares? We open the fridge, thereiis not much in there, some eggs and vegetables. We look around, and find a frying pan, and some plates & utensils. Thank god we stiil remember how to cook an omlette! (Do we believe in god? Hmmm... maybe not, still got a splitting headache) Once wee figure out how to use the cooker, we are in business. We are stirring in thew peppers when Sarah appears behind us, "Whatcha makin'? Ohhh! Omlette! I love Omlette! Is it nearly done?" "Yeah," we respond "just a few more minutes." We eventually end up sat downat a table with sarah, eating the omlette. It is a bit burnt around he edges.

What should we talk about?

A: Ask what we did last night
B: Ask who she is
C: Ask is she likes the food
D: Ask what the map on the wall is for
