As far as I know, your cell doesn't change when you transcend into creature stage, so I would say it's a creature.
It's 3D, so it's definitely not the cell editor.

I think it is a picture of what happens when you decide to get on land. The menu on the left has options all marked new and they feature limbs, arms and legs. Elements that you use in the creature stage. It's the 3D version of the cell editor, that you probably only enter once when you play in campaign mode.

look at the background in the editor.

That is under water.

As Oddity says, it's probably an editor you'll only encounter once in the game. The water is probably symbolism for crawling out of same.
And if you compare it to later videos, you'll find that it's definitely not the Cell editor.

that is definately the creature editor, and almost definately underwater. perhaps there isnt an underwater STAGE as such, but a small underwater part that binds the cell and creature phase, taking place in a small area of the world?

@Darkwanderer: It's almost certainly what happens when you push the button in the bottom-center of this screen. The one that says: "Evolve to land".  ;)

Just to clarify, there will almost definitely not be an underwater creature portion. This is very probably the transition from microscopic cell to macroscopic creature. Only the editor, only once, like the other people said.

This may have been covered before...  but...  I know you have the option to stay in the separate stages as you play in the Campaign mode...  does that mean that if you choose to stay you can earn more DNA/Spice whatever for your next change?  So, for example.. it takes 1500 DNA to leave the cell stage and enter the creature stage, can you remain in the cell stage until you have like 5000 DNA?  So that your Creature features are more easily available?

This may be obvious.. but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Peace

Yup. That about sums it up. :)

In my opinion, they should really put the underwater phase and "functional" flying creatures in the first expansion pack. By functional, I mean something that can really fly into mountaintops. That would be neat.
