I know those are skinning examples, I was just saying that if we do eventually use a program like that (probably a somewhat simplified and a little more user friendly version though) which they are using for those skins, there will be some ppl that don't have the skill, time, or are too lazy, or want to download something a friend made, so there could be custom made skins up for download.

its kind of an IF though because the program players use might be different.

slightly off topic but related to the skins. For the Sims and Sims2, is the skin/texturing program the same as the ones the dev team used when the devs previewed the skin models like WW is doing now with spore and those skin examples?

AFAIK the textures will be procedurally generated too, with some degree of user interaction, e.g. the interface might let you choose a skin-type (Hairy, scaly, slimy, reptilian etc) and a selection of colours which it would then automatically apply to appropriate areas of the creature (such as the frog's yellow belly in the photos), or perhaps even let the user create/edit these 'skin-zones' themselves within the in-game editor.

It's all speculation of course, though I seem to recall WW stating that the textures would be procedurally generated.

look at that frog!

I know you found those on spore.es, but I can't open the images page there. Is there any information on where they got these or anything more than just the pictures?

They're taken from one of the powerpoint presentations.

Man for something that is being procedurally generated that texture on the Willosuarus is really good . I can't wait to see what else can be done with the tools for that .
I think I just had a Sporegasm......

But it isn't necessarily completely generative. It could be that the user has alot of input into texturing. We have seen in demonstrations of the texturing that there is a list of different textures and colourisation. Personally I believe the user has quite alot of input into the texturing phase if they choose to do so, and if they just want to churn out a quick creature, they have the automatic texture option, kind of like the random sim buttom in The Sims.

-Understated elegance.

I didn't see the PPT, so this could be completely wrong.

I think it's a well-done model of a willosaur that someone who works for maxis hand-made in order to make it look as good as it does. I don't think it's a procedural model.
