Medieval 2: Total War ??
« on: January 16, 2006, 08:35:02 am »
Interesting news for fans of the Total War-Series by CA:
There have been some rumours that the next game in the series will be Medieval 2: Total War (german site). Although this has not been officially confirmed yet I really like the idea. What do you guys think?  :)

That seems a bit pointless to me since Medieval is still a great game and is perfectly playable. A more obvious step would be to explore a different stage of history/ part of the world.
One idea I had was Colonial total war. You get to the introduction of guns and so forth but they would just be the crappy flintlock rifles that take a while to reload so the game engine wouldnt be too different, there would be no need for speedy "modern" maneuvers because the tactics of the day were still to charge at each other over a big field, or just stand there and shoot at each other. I guess it would go from a while after the rennaisance right up to maybe the Boer war. it would definitely end before WW1, which brought about tooo many changes in how war  was played out.

Guns and colonial wars are boring.  Medieval was an excellent game and i'd probably end up picking up Medieval 2, even though Rome was diabolical...

I liked Rome, medieval was ok but I think there were too many options for formations etc in battle and the developement of your generals wasnt as well thought through as Rome. Besides, all historical settings have a potential to be excellent or absolutely mind numbingly tedious, it depensds on how they are handled and Total war seem to have done a decent job so far.

Shogun was set in Japan, not China.  Completely different cultures.

Then you could play "Romance of the 3 Kingdoms" as well ;)

I know that, but they are geographically and historically adjacent. Theyve invaded each others countries a fair few times in history.

Shogun and Rome are fantastic, but Medieval was to colourfull for me  :P
Maybe something like Persia and the Middle East would be a better subject for making a new Total War game
A multitude of rulers is not a good thing. Let there be one ruler, one king.

I have no problem with a Medieval 2.  Excellent time period and it seems to be what most are craving for.

I just hope it's not any type of fantasy total war.

I took a pass on Medieval (and it's expansion) when I heard of it, because Rome: Total War was coming out a few months after so I waited.

Rome and medieval are geographically adjacent but not Histrorically adjacent. Medieval takes place several centuries after Rome
