Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

Thats why.
I mean is it for gaming in general, or is he trying to reach the specs for Fear, AOE3, or BF2?

Because you'll need to upgrade a bit more than just a graphics card.
I'm toothy22 on Steam. Someone needs to invite me into the GS clan!

I took a look at his model (DM181A-ABA a305w) and went to HP.com to the support section to get the layout of his MB.  A few things stood out that you should be aware of:

1.) We already know he's got a on-board Intel graphic card (it's got 64meg RAM) and that his has 512meg RAM (it's upgradable to 1GB with either PC2100 or PC2700 ram - but that would mean throwing out his 2 256meg chips and replacing them with 2 - 512meg  sticks - a waste of RAM and a fairly pricey upgrade)

2.) There s no PCI-e or AGP slot available on this model.  Only 3 regular PCI slot - I'm not sure how many are free but what that means is that he is very much limited what kind of video card he can upgrade too.

My recommendation - I'm assuming that the upgrade question is gaming related.  Because of this,  I would be hesitant to buy any upgrades because of the very marginal performance increase vs cost difference.

This is where I gathered those specs - based on the info provided.

I hope I was able to help out.

Oof!

Djfinny just made me look bad.

 :P

Anyway, I agree with him on the improvement vs cost issue.

You probably just want to wait and save for a new computer. If you want to build one ask us!

Go to http://www.ibuypower.com and get the Value Pro.  It'll cost less than a uprade in time and money.
