The Kazea - MY new creature

The Kazea

The Kazea is a hexapodal land-living creature. It's covered in wool fabric-like fur with a thick mane and a furry tail. Four of the legs are used for walking, the front two are used for tools and balancing the upper body. The hands have three digits each, with the front hands weaker and more flexible. The Kazea is an omnivore, but prefers food it can easily bite off. It has no front teeth, just a beak-like jaw, with chewing teeth further in. The Kazea lives in groups of twelve, and no more. When a new Kazea is born in a full group, the eldest Kazea in the group is ritually banished and has to live a hermit's life till he dies or finds a mate to start a new group with. The average life expectancy of a Kazea is 33 years.

The Kazea is a dual-spined creature. It has two sets of ribs which protect the heart and the lungs. Less important organs are outside the inner rib-cage.

The eyes are not protected by the skull. Instead, they hang beneath it, protected only by two small bones. Behind the eyes are a gel-filled hollow, so if the eyes are hit, they are pushed into the hollow, hopefully avoiding damage.

More to come!

All and any creatures, concepts, ideas and mere suggestions that might inspire you are hopefully copyrighted by me, as of 2005/06.

The Kazea also have a SporeWiki page, if you for some reason don't want to look through 20+ pages(and while SporePlanet is down you can also view pictures!)!

Thanks a lot! Here's a new picture. The leaders of two groups are facing each other, performing a complex set of threats and warnings. Each group has their own spoken language with approx. 400 words, but the only way for two different groups to understand eachother is by their ancient sign language. The group leader with the best "arguments" win, and the other group has to give away land or some item they posess.

A map of their planet, called Akaz.

This image shows the concentration of groups since the first primitive group. Yellow means 1-5 groups per 20 square miles, orange 5-10, and red more than 10.

EDIT: "Today" here means by the time they went from tribal to what we can call the dark ages.

wait. More than ten groups per square MILE, unless theyre really small or a mile for them is way bigger than for us that wouldnt pan out, there would be way too much competition for resources. You could call it 100 square miles and re-adjust your scales.

Edit:ok cool, sorry, it just seemed a bit too far fetched band I thought youd want your guys to be plausible.

Is there any special reason why they haven't spread to any other continents.

The groups consist of twelve individuals, no more... well, say 20 square miles. I'll change it. EDIT: Sorry, i was thinking about swedish miles (1 mil = 10 kilometres) Changed it accordingly.

The reason they haven't spread is that they are superspicous of the ocean. They think of it as never-ending, and no-one has dared entering it.

In the northern parts of the Amaran continent, some groups have started to learn how to ride the lumbering Mosasoles. The Mosasole originates from the same ancestor as the Kazea, but its branch split off long ago. Ideas spread fast among the Kazean groups, and riding is very valuable knowledge, so some groups trade Mosasoles to the southern groups for other resources.

really cool animation of thier spread. although they must spread out really slowly because humans went to every corner of the world in that time.

Well, that elephant-mount you drew now was cool. A bit LOTResque, but cool never the less.
