well, maybe he didn't see the reply back or he just logged off early or whatever the heck, so I'll just continue.

Caltrop: I think whales actually sing using the 'melon' which is what they use for echolocation.

One day, a young Inceptus was playing around with some pieces of coral and leftover bones he noticed that some pieces of coral made a sharp but pleasant sound, after some playing with those some adults noticed and then after some days pretty much the whole tribe knew about it and were curious. later some adults devised a primitive instrument out of this. This way they developed the first form of music.

(sorry for the very short and not very good entry, but I have no idea how things would sound underwater and bieng hard of hearing, I can't hear anything underwater so I have no frame of reference to use)

A: develop better hunting weaponry (spears and knives)

B: develop weaving (they can use this for various things including baskets, mats, rope, etc)

C: invent some form of tanning or improving the skins of animals they hunted

D: explore some of the surrounding area, see whats out there.

(the last one was because I had a lack of ideas and also for something different.)

I'd say D. Its more in the style I'm doing the Cryoeltans, where seemingly arbitrary choices lead on to cultural inventions and improvements. If anyone found Smjjames's update too short (I think it was good enough. Its music, what more can you say?) they are welocome to go and read my gargantuan Cryoeltan update... what was I thinking? ::)

I think you meant good not ood, but yea thanks. if they were land or even just amphibious creatures it would have been alot easier, so I just managed what I could.

I'm voting D, isn't it ironic that we are voting on the one he thought of last minute?

it wasn't one I thought of last minute, I wrote the whole thing over a couple minutes. besides the last choice will always be a last minute choice because you made it in the last minute of your typing :)

true, I kept reusing some of the options cause I'm trying to give them some of that stuff plus I didn't know for sure what I could do next.

At points like this it is probably best that you are giving alot of the same make us decide are the creatures going to specialize in some way you will they be jacks of all trade. Oh yeah I voted D.

I found with the Cryoeltans that if i got people to vote on seemingly arbitrary decisions (like whether to explore the sky or the ground) that it was pretty easy to think of some 'real' developements which would result from that. Like maybe if the Inceptus decide to dig their burrows deeper they could discover an underground hot-spring or if they decide to build their shelters more above-ground they may find that edible crabs start nesting in them, ok that last one was a bit crap but I thought of it pretty quickly ;).

A possible future idea for a choice is who the Inceptus will make the new tribal leader, with choices amounting to: The strong one/the smart one/ the good one/ the transparently evil one or whatever.

I don't quite understand what you mean there.

Sounds like a good idea Krakow, I'll try using that method.

since pratically everybody is voting D....

Before I update, there is something that is just bugging me, since they live in a reef, they probably live in warm waters, yet they have winters which suggests cooler water temps. so do they live in the tropics or somewhere further north or south of the equator where its a more temparate climate. The reason this is bugging me is because they live in a reef, but I want to have creatures migrate out during the winter, but reefs are usually tropical, so the two facts are kinda conflicting each other and I just cant figure it out.

I think its better to think of it as, its another planet, and it dosen't have to take the same criteria as Earth does.  It can have winter  and still be tropical, it could have some sort of weird planet fluctuation.  Like it rolls on its side once a year or something.
