going to wait for some more votes as two choices are tied at one vote and one choice has two in it so it could go in any direction.

I vote D because KS voted C. Let's hope this is the tie breaker...

Well, now it's tied at first.

ok, A wins :)

One night some decades later in the deep winter before the breeding season in the spring a huge nova appeared in the sky which rained radiation down on the Inceptus. They don't realize it yet but something fundamental changed in thier biology. Soon breeding season came and went and things went normal, but a few years later (anybody know what the life span is of these guys, how fast they mature and the period between mating and birth?) when the young females of that generation first reached breeding age (and normally thier last) they did the usual mating stuff and gestation (the period of embryonic growth). However, unlike thier female ancestors, the whole thing didn't kill them in the end and they only gave birth to about 4-6 young instead of the 15+. These young were also somewhat more mature physically (meaning the organs and stuff are fully formed), but are like human children in that they are immature psychologically, they are also alot smaller than the adults. Even though the females got physically drained after the whole thing was over, they were back to normal in a few weeks. They soon found that despite the lower number of young, it is offset by the fact that the females can breed again next year.

It took several more years for the whole of the Inceptus to develop this because those that were born before they were still had to go through the same old painful cannibalism. With that, their society changed drastically in that the males had more help in giving care, there were more adults (male and female) available for hunting parties, and various other ways.

A: develop a form of music (you guys can give ideas on this as I don't think flute type instruments work underwater and I'm not sure how string type instruments would work)

B: Develop spears (I know they have electricty, but some animals might be too dangerous to get close to and plus its another weapon to use for defense)

C: Try and domesticate something (you guys can give ideas on this, Holstiencow was too fixated on the yoovoo, teshfe, and that other wierd predator so there aren't many other creatures he created)

D: Develop baskets or some other food storage method.

and the poll is now reset.

also with the last entry I said they were stabbing at that crab thing, I guess they would be stabbing it with the claws on thier hornhand and with thier teeth.

a picture of these guys would be really good.

I'll say A again. Percussive instruments carry very well under water so theyd be limited to rhytmic beating of rocks, shells etc. It could also be used for long range communtications between hunting parties. I'd imagine strings might work as well... not sure. If you choose strings dont give them violins straight away, start with harps :)

yea theoretically strings would because you are vibrating something. but I would search on the web to see if string sinstruments would work underwater if I knew what exactly to search for, and I don't know what exactly to search for.

A. What about the earliest form of music: singing? The only instrument you need is your voice. Besides, doesn't it make sense that that would be the first phase of their musical understanding (that which they produce themselves)? Whales sing underwater... so we know it works.

waited a little longer than I usually did, but anyway, A won.

I'll update soon, after Holstiencow tells me about some thoughts of what he was planning on for the Inceptus origionally.
