Voicemail Guideline.
« on: January 11, 2006, 04:13:40 am »
After my own voicemail got answered, I was shocked. I sound terrible !
I don't like to hear the sultry sound of my own voice, so I won't be posting a voicemail soon again.
But what can I do to improve the sound of my voice ? Are there guidelines ? I was thinking about that and I made some guidlines to at least reduce your voice sounding stupid (at least for yourself)

First : Pronounciation, don't sound like you're mumbling.
Second: Lower your voice, especially if you got a squeeky voice. Don't overdo it.
Third: Good recording material.
Fourth: Practice your question.

That's all I can think of, but I like some feedback and more suggestion guidelines.

That happens to everyone, the sound of your own voice sounds strange to you because its not how you hear it in your head when you talk. I hate mine too.  :P Don't worry about it.  ;)

Speaking of Voicemail, which address does Steve want the voicemail sent to?  I recorded a question (about 300k large) and I don't want to send it to the wrong e-mail!

you forgot about the guys that sound like computers...
I have been told
not by one but two of my lovers
that I've got a heart of gold
but I'm unable to share it with others
They call me a poet who'll never have a poem
a tiger with no taste for bone
I'm the wonderful wonderful wizard who's waltzing alone

I definitely practice my question. First thing you want to do is write your question out on paper, so that your grammar and structure is of an intelligent sounding nature. Then practice a few times, so you don't get caught up on any word used. Keep in mind, you don't want it sounding completely like you're reading (which mine did a little), so what you want to do is improve a little through-out the question to give it a more raw random feel.

A good mic helps. Strangely enough, I work at a piano store and used a digital piano to record. They have a standard mid-grade recording mic here, which I plugged into the digital piano and streamed my record. It sounded pretty good.

This topic is so funny..I think I know who you are because I remember one audio question that sounded a bit too sultry in the beginning for a guy. But it's totally cool...don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the question you asked, and you seem like a cool guy.

 ;D

you didn't sound like you were reading.  you sounded like you were a sentient computer program trying to disguise itself as a human being.  don't get me wrong, i think it's really cool that you were able to come into existence (us humans take sentience for granted - it must have been a struggle) just don't, y'know, do that thing.  that thing where you take over the world.

lol, this thread is funny.n't know why everyone who sends in voicemails sounds like a computer. I thought you guys were typing your question into a program and having it say the question, but now I just realized thats how you really talk!  :o

I thought they all sounded really good and natural. I think all the questions sent so far have been really great quality and I would rather that they send questions which are spoken clearly and well rather than someone just mumbling into the mic.

Wow really? I got the first computer like statement you made, but I honestly didn't think it was me you were talking about. I sound like a robot? I suppose I have to work on that. Funny thing is, I'm an actor. I know it sounded like it was being read, but I try to make my questions as articulate as possible, quick to the point, and with as little stumbling as possible.

That's funny though. I listened to it again, and I don't think I sound like a robot. Don't be intimidated by the well-spoken...lol...I am more human than human (wink wink).

Oh and if you plan on winning this war, I wouldn't start with "scorching the sky." We won't need the sun for long.

What I never understood about the entire Matrix universe was "If they invented AI, SURELY they have space travel advanced to an extent that they have Moon or even Mars colonies. What happened to them?

Sorry to go off topic. The Voicemails are terrific, just please, don't modify your voice, it kinda makes it annoying. However, I did enjoy the one that was a homage to Shodan. Another game I can't play for being too scary...damnit...

That sounds slightly suspicious to me...
