I guess you have to measure a potential price drop against the amount of time you will have to wait for it.
I bought my DS in November and quite frankly, the sheer amount of fun I have had playing it is worth the extras few dollars I paid for it.
Besides which, if you buy it as part of a bundle (I bought mine complete with Nintendogs), it comes that bit cheaper anyways.

I may buy a DS in 2007, when the price has dropped and there will be more games for it.

I will admit that I did regret getting the DS when it first came out. There were not any good games for it until recently

Ressurected.

More games for it? Are you kidding? I own 10 games that I will easily reccomend to you. I say go for it! Pre-order a DS Lite and some games. I did; you will not regret it.

The DS is my favorite gaming platform currently. I think it's amazing and has so much great software that it's difficult to keep up with it all. And if you're looking for FPS, then get MPH; if you want simulation, you might consider Advance Wars Dual Strike -- it's awesome.

One issue I have with the whole, "Wait till it gets cheaper before buying" thing is this ... some games that are well worth owning do not catch on with a mainstream audience and over time become next to impossible to find. Phoenix Wright used to be insanely hard to locate before they issued a re-release of it, which we were fortunate to get. I get the idea of waiting, don't get me wrong; I'm no a total moron. Just saying that you're weighing risk versus reward in that scenario and you need to determine which is more important to you -- saving a little money while simultaneously risking the chance of having trouble locating some of the lesser-known gems, or buying it now and paying more for access to everything immediately? I tend to come out on the latter side of the argument.

But then, I'm an addict.

And yes, I'm buying a DS Lite the day it comes out. Not having one if you love your DS gaming is insane, IMO; you can trade them in towards the purchase of a Lite, so I don't see the big expenditure.
