Honestly, I don't really know... To the internet!

I found this: http://www.esri.com/news/arcuser/1001/files/bettermaps.pdf

Reading it now to see if it's relevant!

The map is nice but the location names are all over the place. They should have hooked up with people from the fake languages subreddits like Brandon and Tesla go to.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

I'm sure there is a history there that we as the map viewers aren't seeing. From my viewing of the map in detail, it seems like that little section of the to the right is the original nation and all the land on the large section is colonial land. It looks like it was originally colonies from several different nations but has since come under the control of the little nation on the right. But because we only get a map with no explanation, all this is just a guess by me. :P

Oh we could set up our game like that.

Maybe we spend a phase building an established word. And then we spend a phase colonizing the new world. It would allow us to have some anchor points for our lore and movements, but also a whole new land to expand upon within a basic structure.

I think the favorite map I've found on this site so far is this one:

It's beautiful! More about it here: https://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=8142

Well as it's the Empire of Torentine, which is the capitol of the eastern bit, you're probably right.

Plus the native enclave states are clearly emulations of mesoamerican cultures, and the southern state is Spanish while the northern ones are more anglicized.

OK so I am looking for a good tool for map making. I need to work on my world Aerden and starting with a map is generally a good idea. Any one has a idea on what tool I should use?

I know this isn't about that site, but this seem like a good as place as any to have a general map topic. Because this map is amazing:

Probably going to want to open it up in a new tab, it's pretty large.

Is there a key for the map somewhere? I want to know why there are different shades within some countries.
Probably not a Goat, either.

Yeah I was also curious about that blob in the middle of England. Did the Irish sneak in during the night or something?

There is, but you're not going to like it...
