I think they might be screwed if the AMD processors are not going to work. I'm kinda pissed, but I didn't have a lot of hope for it. I am just playing Spore now becuase it is the closest I can think of to play.

Won't play on my computer, got the same error you did. Loaded on the laptop but it stuck going through the many colored space/stars thing.

My gaming rig is still out for repair so I may have to refund and try again when it's on sale.

Yeah, my view is -$10 per week it isn't working. The floor is $10 if they can get it to work.

I am starting to think they knew they were screwed by design and will just accept the lower payout.

I'm on a planet of constant acid rain, birds flying like kites with the occasional wings of spaceships.

Is it perfect? No, nothing in life is. But I'm on a facsimile of another planet, with herds of alien animals on the plains below.

I was bored and bought it in a moment of weakness (was playing Bravely Second but my 3DS ran out of juice and I can only charge it in the corner of my room where I can't sit).

The game runs fine on my system, if a little choppy. It's a kinda simple game, a bit like Spore's space phase from a different point of view. And about as exciting if I'm honest.
It's slow and seems to lack variety. But then it's also neat because it feels big. But then it's empty. But then it's peaceful.
So I have no idea how I feel about it yet.

All that aside I still do not like the price. It is absolutely overvalued for the experience it offers. It's a simple game, not very complex. The only management you do is inventory and fuel/power for devices or your ship. Beyond that it's a vast universe of similar noise.

Still gonna play it for awhile more. Might as well. 220 minutes or something on Steam so I'm married to it now.
But I'd value it at 30 bucks tops.

Sounds like you lucked out. Nobody should be forced to play a Bravely Default game.

You should save up 25 bucks and pick up A-Train City Simulator 3D on the 3DS. Others are finally buying it. Do it too! :3

With the volume of complaints they are getting I'd be surprised if they held people to the two hours... it might take them that long to even get it going.

I've watched a few let's plays of this game and it seems so boring. It always seemed boring and it seems like there isn't much more to it than what was shown in their first demos a couple years ago.

Well, I've launched NMS enough times now to get Steam to say I've played it for 2 minutes now! I'm tempted to do it until I can post a review, just to see how many times it takes.

I'm already in barricade mode in Spore, slowly picking off the Grox and 42-ing the pink spice planets for myself.

I very, very nearly pre-ordered No Man's Sky, and seeing how well it's run on most peoples' systems makes me very glad I didn't, plus from what I've seen even if it DOES run, you'll have seen the entirety of what the game has to offer in two hours.

Pretty sad that eight years later we've got a game that fails nearly the exact same way Spore did, whilst attempting to do (to some degree) the exact same things Spore did as well. It's like this specific niche genre has a curse or something. IIRC this is the second major game to try this sort of thing, maybe the third time will be the charm? Hopefully?

Maybe we need the game to be made by a studio that doesn't have EA breathing down it's neck, and isn't just some guy and a team scrambled together once they accidentally hit it big.  Maybe user generated and procedurally generated aren't all they're cracked up to be.

Probably a combination of those but I think it's mostly the last one.

Humans are way too good at pattern recognition for the kind of procedural generation most games are capable of these days to impress us. As soon as you've intuitively figured out the rules the system uses to create aliens/plants/planets/spaceships or that the restrictions on the creativity of other players are the same as the ones on you nothing seems impressive even if it really is something nobody has ever seen before.

any system which bolts together a bunch of predetermined parts using simple rules and then tries to animate the result is barely one step better than all aliens being humanoid, and if their behaviours are similarly restricted (which they will be as AI still seems to be really lagging behind other game design elements) then it's even worse because your brain can't resist just categorising them as "bat alien", "cow alien", "wolf alien" no matter what they look like because that's the role they play in terms of their interaction with you.

Yeah, you can't have procedual generation with an exploration focus, because people are going to notice repetition and as soon as that happens the magic is gone.
It works well for other gameplay stuff though, like roguelikes and such.

Procedural generation should be used for simple things or for, like... designing a planet in the rough, and then the designers go in and sculpt that base into something beautiful. I don't need a bazillion planets. And if you do want a bazillion planets, then give us design tools and let us sculpt the planets. That's a good compromise.

But otherwise take your three to five years and craft a couple dozen nice places for us to visit and explore. And then add on more afterwards. This is what DLC should be, I feel like this is what was sold to us when DLC was first becoming a thing. And yet very few developers use that tool to expand their games in meaningful ways.

After you reach the center you kind of go, ho hum. All the missions I get now are 'abduct an alien from a race you are friends with' type. The only thing I haven't done is find earth I think.

EDIT - So the experimental patch seems to be sort of working for my computer. I might actually get to play.

This is boring as hell, uses gaming technology approaches that were dated 20 years ago, and lacks any significant content.

"Okay" is a pretty spot-on description of Elite: Dangerous. It has more depth than NMS for sure, but the game still leaves a lot to be desired and I don't know how much more they can add to it to fix its problems without a major rebuild.

For real, though. This game could be great with some big updates and changes. Gonna be a while before that day comes.

Maybe I am off track with this, I don't really know. But I feel like NMS and E:D both suffered because of Star Citizen. Despite the negative hype garnered by SC, the other two games were still left having to play a sort of "me-too" game as SC's list of features became comically-long. And I especially think Elite: Dangerous should have spent another year in development. There was no reason that game needed to come out when it did and the backers would have been able to deal with it.

I've become very okay with games being delayed as I've gotten older. Just wanna play good stuff.

With the wreck the NMS is I am half tempted to see if Elite:Dangerous deserves another shot. I mean, I played Spore again this weekend for about 12-13 hours on and off (plus a couple hours that were tracked because I was paused) and I enjoyed it even if it was dated.

When I last tried Erectile:Dysfunction I found that after 26 hours of play it just wasn't getting me 'there'. So, maybe I'll try Explosive:Diarrhea again, but I just reread my review, so maybe not.

People might not like what I am about to say but I really do not enjoy this game. I played Elite on the Commodore 64 way back in the day and my friends that do play E:D love it. For me? I am very glad it only cost $15 when I bought it. What is does offer is an incredible challenge to your patience and some pretty eye candy, if you can live long enough to enjoy it.

I put 26 hours in to the game before I gave up, I knew it would be tough, but as a regular Eve Online player for years this is crap. Top complaints:

Controls are across six degrees of freedom (X, Y,Z, Pitch, Yaw, and Roll). If you have a HOTAS setup you might enjoy this a lot, if you don't have one and are working with a gamepad you have one hand tied behind your back (that is me). You guys that play on mouse and keyboard have my admiration.

Making money:
-Missions, most are utterly impossible in the starting ship with the starting cash. You need to earn money and get upgrades first before you try them. They also have some major timing limits that require you to rush and distances that are ruinous for a new player who needs to explore the systems (running out of fuel a few times taught me that painful lesson). To be honest the game designers should just block them from new players.
-Trade, only reliable way to get money in pocket for doing something in this game, but the inter-station flight mechanics mean you'll spend a ton of time staring at a white dot waiting to count down to jump out of hyperspace (that is a lot of fun after a while, I can't tell you.) Inter-system trade can be slightly better (actually flying between two stars is much faster than flying between two planets).
-Bounties, here is my final straw with this game. When you kill someone that is 'wanted' you earn a bounty. That is listed on the left ship screen with the name of the system or group's station type you need to go to collect it. I've matched the name to the station and guess what.. you can't collect! Ok, let me try another station, nope! A third station... oh let me get jumped by an Expert or better pirate who turns my starter ship in to cosmic dust... again. Ok, new ship... BOUNTIES ARE GONE!

As an Eve Player I get the idea of a death penalty (I've lost Machariels and Orcas dozens of times), but this game has no good starter point.

The game developers should do the following:
-Flesh out the bounty system so that players can find the payout point (seriously, I earned a couple hundred thousand in bounties but could never find a station to turn them in, then I get popped by an expert interdiction on the way).
-Turn off or adjust the missions for starter players. The ones offered are not possible with the starter ship, so they should not be offered.

Heck, try the Star Citizen free-fly. You'll be playing a alpha that isn't nearly there yet, but maybe you'll enjoy it?

Well I'm still playing NMSand getting a lot of of it. I don't know when I'll burn out but I'll probably get a ton more hours in before I say I have had enough.

It's also weird when I was a teenager there was a monthly Nintendo magazine "Nintendo Magazine System" or NMS for short so the appriviation still goes back to that by default in my head. Takes a bit to wrap my head around.

I'm having trouble getting my thoughts into words, or the right words at least. It doesn't help I have /r/nomansskythegame and /r/nomanshigh open as well. Dunno how many times I wrote a paragraph and have deleted it.

I am enjoying No Man's Sky very much. Every time I play, each session has a 'wow' moment. Just today I found a planet with a rift in the landscape with a rock at the end of it that wasn't quite part of the landscape. Obviously a meteor had gouged the part of the planet and came to a rest. The meteor wasn't an object the same way outposts and ruins are, but part of the landscape. And that wasn't put there by the dev. Then I saw a flock of giant moths.

The game isn't perfect, and maybe I'm cheating a little bit because it was a very late birthday present, but there's something about this game that speaks to me. I want to see what's over the next horizon, willing to walk the 2 minutes that'll take me to that next question mark. I saw a planet in the sky and was able to go there. This is what I wanted from the game, to see new worlds and things nobody else will ever see, although I suppose they'll see something very similar. Maybe that was the right level of hype?

I really don't like the vitriolic 'Sean Murray is malicious liar who just wants our money'. I think I sympathise with Hello Games - when you're creating something, you compromise based on budget and time. Games are this weird medium where development can be documented through the entire process. Everything else, the audience sees either the final product or small little teasers. Like, imagine if GRR Martin released every draft of Winds of Winter every month.

I don't know. I'm having fun.

Glad I'm not the only having fun with this. Currently working on finding a better ship by hunting crashed ships. So much easier than saving money to buy an upgrade. Especially with how exponentially the price starts going up.

The tall alien from Men in Black said what I've been thinking for a long time.  This was just a little indie game with a neat hook that got waaaay too much attention and couldn't possibly meet the high expectations it was given.  Kind of a reverse Molyneux.

I've had Steam refund games with over eight hours played. They were usually RTS or some kind of genre that demanded more than two hours to "get it". I made sure to explain this in my refund request as well.

So I've put in about 50 hours so far. I read almost nothing about it beforehand so I didn't go in with any expectations. All the same, I'm reminded constantly of its many, many shortcomings. There are so many little changes that could be made that would make it just less annoying. It could have been a lot better, but I'm still enjoying it.

$38,000,000+ refunded from this crappy game from STEAM alone!
