Topic: Arrival (aka Story of Your Life)

I've been keeping an eye on this movie ever since it was announced, and finally it has a trailer. It's based on a really good short story called story of your life (it's part of compilation of great sci-fi short stories by Ted Chang called story of your life and others, but I could only find a link to this particular story here, if you enjoy it you should definitely check out the rest.)

The premise is aliens show up in mysterious ships, but it's very far removed from a typical alien invasion story. Instead it focuses on the linguist sent to decipher their language, which turns out to be very different from the kind of languages we're used to. There's also some hot physics talk.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the movie - from what little we can see, it seems like it might actually be a faithful adaptation.

That does look cool, but I can already see the spoof trailer of the Muppets in the next shot being made.

So I think this movie just released. I'm not sure where I'll find a theater playing it in English, but I'm very excited to see it if I get the chance. Reviews so far have been good.
