Help with laptop
« on: November 01, 2015, 01:52:40 pm »
Hey people, I'm not dead yet.

Okay, so I have a problem with my laptop. It's a lenovo X61, which has a fancy monitor that doubles as a tablet to draw on, with a special pen that comes with the tablet. This has worked very well for years, but... once I upgraded to Windows 10, the pen stopped working. I already tried various wacom newer tablet drivers, believing it's a compatibility issue, but none seem to work. I tried to get help on lenovo's website and their forums, but the forums are dead and the support feature there is a cruel joke (it just keeps linking me to their FAQ after asking me to fill in details about my laptop for ten minutes). I also can't roll back to Windows 7, because the option is missing in the software settings (where it's supposed to be).

So now I'm at my wit's end, and I thought since you're a smart bunch, I thought it couldn't hurt asking you. Even if you don't know, maybe you can point me in the right direction.

It sucks, because this thing costed like a small fortune, so buying a new one is not really something I'm looking forward to. :(

Lenovo can be a pain, but they are usually pretty good at getting drivers out....

This link: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x61?TabName=Downloads&linkTrack

should bring you to the X61 page. Set the OS to Windows 10 (32 bit or 64 bit... check control panel... system... to find out).

There are three entries, the third one should be the Lenovo Systems Update. THAT is what should load all the needed drivers. Give that a shot if you haven't already. It SHOULD load a program that will help you grab all the drivers so the bit and pieces that Lenovo uses for their toys.

...

It worked. You don't know how long I spent installing stuff, uninstalling stuff, researching stuff, asking a bunch of people etc. And then I install that thing you linked to, which didn't work at first, but then I downloaded the latest Windows 10 update and now my pen is working again.

Just like that. Took me 5 minutes.

...

Glad I could help. The X61 was a pretty solid piece of kit. Mine lasted two years of truck driving and computer tech hell before it died... more tape than case towards the end.

My desktop is from the Lenovo line, an erazer X700. This sucker has an overclock button right above the power button on the case, and it's all neon red glowy and cool looking and I'll never use it but I like knowing that it's there.

Haahaaheeharrharr.

Knowing certain facts, I would appreciate if you would not joke about that. Not that we here cannot take a joke. But shall we also forget the entire "Flisch is a whiny little sad weep" charade forever, please?

Nothing and no one can be taken for granted.

I know it's easy to get white people confused for one another, but this is Flisch, not Steve.

Note the presence of Lederhosen and the smell of Sauerkraut.

Wait, he's not from Bayern.

Note the presence of a triple-A financial rating and the smell of a crisp business suit.
