Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

best trailer is best

I'm getting it for PC but I'm posting about it here instead.
So yeah, I'm super hype for this thing. It releases on September 1st on PS3/4, Xbox 360/One, and PC (Steam, possibly others).
Celdur and I might hang out on chat and play it at the same time like I've done in the past with Oblivion and Skyrim. So much fun. :0

For those not in the know the game does feature a couple of multiplayer components. Apart from singleplayer's Mother Base there is also a Forward Operating Base that you can customize and use to launch invasions against other player's bases to steal resources and crew. If you are invaded you are free to retaliate. Your friends can retaliate on your behalf and I'm pretty sure they can defend your base as well if you're unavailable but I might be mistaken. You can also visit friend's bases and screw around.

Here are some of the more recent videos. We won't be getting too many more big reveals as we get closer to release.
They've actually been very careful and mum about plot details and have only ever shown off one mission done in a variety of ways.

I'm typically pretty **** at these games to be honest but it doesn't matter since I just like to screw around. Now that it's got an open-world thing going for it I'm pretty stoked to roam and cause mischief.

I really thought this game came out a few months ago.
Probably not a Goat, either.

Yeah, that whole thing was kind of a marketing nightmare. It confused way more people than it should have.
To this day people still bitch about it like "i shouldnt have to pay for a demo hurrr".

I thought "ground zeroes" was a meme. That's the actual name of the game. @_@

Was it any good?

It was like one mission or something. Kojima is a latter day P.T. Barnum.

It had a short main mission, about an hour, and then a bunch of side missions on the same map like destroying anti-air emplacements, rescuing POWs, assassinating some dudes, and some other really bizarre stuff later on like... running around as Raiden shooting alien body snatchers or something.
What floored me about Ground Zeroes was how good it looked while running like a dream. I thought I'd have the usual framerate-drop choppy crap all over the place while I just suffered through it like I have with so many other games but nope.
Gameplay-wise it was pretty fun but it definitely left you wanting more which I think was the idea. Very tight unfrustrating controls.

I thought I'd include this since I didn't talk much about it before-- they've been boasting the size of their open world for quite some time now. They seem rather proud of how they've arranged the game this time.
Here's an overlay of the various games and their maps compared to the size of Phantom Pain's Afghanistan region, which is one of three of the main maps you can explore. One of the others is African jungle and I'm not sure about the third.. I've either forgotten or they haven't said anything.

If you look at Ground Zeroes' map there you can see that there may be several more camps or bases about that size throughout each region.

I enjoy exploring and finding or running into surprises. :0

Also we recently got some cross platform images comparing the graphical quality. Gotta say that PC looks the best here, not that I care a ton personally.
I'm more a fan of stability than anything else.

Celdur tells me the PS4 version got leaked.
So uh.. I'ma just spend the next 3 weeks as a kind of internet hermit and not browse or do anything anywhere ever.

It turns out that the phantom pain was carpel tunnel.

A bit of gameplay, nothing major or spoilery. Just a bit to whet your appetite or whatever.

Just 8 days to go now. Working this week probably won't be hard at all. :u

EDIT: Nevermind, it got taken down for some reason.

Short answer is we don't know.

The way it works from what I understand is that if you want to make an FOB you have to buy a spot in the ocean for it.
To buy that you need "MB coins" which can be bought with real life currency.
To actually develop the FOB and make it worth **** is all ingame resources that can't be bought as far as we know.
MB coins can be obtained through ingame means, but no one knows how grindy it will be.
FOB is supposed to be part of this large mmo economy struggle or something.
So on the larger scale someone could buy the max amount of FOBs a player can have and get a headstart on that.
But on the smaller scale, it seems like everyone has to actually play the game to get the right soldiers and equipment to make the FOB any good.
So unless they add in ways to buy ingame resources and soldiers with real life money, you can buy a ton of land for FOBs, and then have 3 FOBs to defend without anything on them.

Here's hoping that that's the case, but who knows with konami.
