I'm locked in what I think is the final battle with the Vake.  But I lost my half tamed mandrake, sadly.

I don't think you're in the final battle by a long way Ink. As far as I know none of the "Ambition" storylines are actually finished as of writing this. I actually got to the end of the material they'd written for my Ambition (Hearts Desire) but then they updated it and I can continue (However I'm stuck for now because the new challenges they've added require Shadowy above 150 even though the Hearts Desire ambition is supposed to be a test of Watchful and Persuasive. BAAAW. Stupid haunted house.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

All I know is that I'm in a blacked out pit away from London fighting the thing.

You were right, I didn't beat the Vake.  But we roughhoused a bit and I met some hot nuns.
