Cities: Skylines

So this is I guess what Sim City (2013) should have been. It is made by Paradox and it has seemed like they have learned from Sim City's mistakes.

Some top features are;
- No muliplayer.
- Can buy land around your city to expand it.
- People have jobs and houses and actually go to them, rather than random houses or work.
- Modding tools will be released on day 1.
- Little things like sewage in the river can make your people sick.
- If you don't build a graveyard, the dead will be left in their homes and lower the value of the neighborhood.
- A lot more!

From what I have seen I am very impressed. I loved all the Sim City games and was a bit disappointed with manyaspects of Sim City (2013). I am glad someone has made a game that tries to go beyond that.

Paradox is making a city builder. Okay I'm listening.

It sounds like we're both coming from the same place here, Hydro. "Okay, how far from Sim City did they diverge and how bad does this make the game?" :P

When it comes to Paradox published games I need to be a bit skeptical, after  Impire and A game of dwarves. It is however a different developer that is making this game so I'm keeping my hopes up.

No multiplayer? I thought that was probably the most interesting feature for SimCity.
I think that more citybuilder could benefit from having both singleplayer and multiplayer, but not in the way Maxis did it. Maybe more like how OpenTTD does it?
If you stop and think about it, Your life's longer as an old guy than a kid. Scary o.o

EPIC!! it looks WAY better than a average incomplete EA game will be... and no DLC`s.

Yes i agree Galactic [¬_¬]

Thanks Zion!!
and expansion! That`s WAY better than being in a crummy spot and stuck with the size no matter what.

Expansion is cool! Humans are making their primitive game`s better [^u^]

You do know there was Expansion in game`s before that... do you?

Shut up! [#¬_¬#]

Sorry! Sorry!

Hm, I'm a bit iffy.

I watched a dev video and when it came to the budget screen she sure seemed wibbly wobbly simulation stuff which was a bit concerning. Not to mention when she followed a 'cim' he didn't really take an efficient route to work, and honestly it was a bit awkward as she hyped up the system that was very clearly struggling...

Not to mention the whole, EMS still considered a part of regular traffic nonsense.

Plus, I'm not sold on agent based hoo haa. I'd prefer a statistical sim with graphics showing things in some sort of scaled fashion if it means larger buildings with densely packed spaces. Too much CPU power for too little gain. Idgaf about an individual.

I'm skeptical. Seems a bit shallow. However, district crafting and policies was unique as hell and looks like it has huge potential so we'll see!

So far I'm a fan.

Once I realized you could recolor public transit routes I had to make a new map... To much blue to untrangke haha.

I like setting up transit routes. Planning a highway system and interchange is fun stuff. I also make generous use of the six lane one ways and circle round about neighborhoods. I do have an issue with how it calculates civic building coverage when circle one ways are involved, always seems to sell me short.

Once you get any sort of positive income, growing slowly is a breeze, especially if you plan well. I find I accumulate more money by the time I finish building the proper highway/civic/neighborhoods and fill in the zones.

Seriously though, just got my train system going connecting my four islands/hubs, with bus routes that connect to neighborhood routes. Its fun as **** to watch a cim take 2 trains and a bus to get somewhere.

Still have no metro though.

Game is pretty east to do well, beyond solving the traffic problem. Currently at 43k with $1.5 mil and the only thing stopping me is my imagination and crippling need to ensure as littlest traffic as possible.

Why do city sims inevitably boil down to traffic management games?

Traffic and roads always seemed to be the thing that got in the way of growth when I played simcity 4 as well. What's the deal with that?

No.

99% of the roads will remain unused and traffic will pile up on a single route forever. :U

So far, nothing like that has happened. Just keep the zones and services well distributed and there's no reason for traffic to gather in one area.

(According to the traffic map, all roads are at lowest possible traffic with 7,000 residents.)

I've been getting any growable assets I can so there is a little more variety. I do wish for more variety in the billboards on the buildings, it feels like there only 3 :P

If I understand his meaning correctly, I think he's referring to how structures have "levels" and get better as their surroundings improve.

Growables are buildings that show up when you zone, as opposed to buildings you place like the hospital or the school.

Also known as "ploppables".

Plop a ploppable in your mouth when you come to Fishy Joe's.
What they're made of is a mystery where they come form no one knows.
You can pick em you can lick em you can chew em you can stick em.
And if you promise not to sue of you can shove one up your nose.

Been fussing around with road layouts.

How's this look?

Red lines indicate one-way roads and the arrow tells you which way. Blue lines are standard type.

Yeah, this game is oddly intensive. It runs fine, but it makes my card run at like 80 Celsius sometimes, for whatever reason. Scary stuff.

Also, Pat, your design skills ain't got NOTHING on me.

Ahaha spaghetti city is hot GARBAGE. I love it though.

Doritotown looks cool too, though, gotta say.

For the other one, I feel like you could connect the the innermost set of one-way streets in the wing with the two-ways you have set up in the outline of it to save on some traffic time, maybe.
