Number of Planets/Colonies of an Empire

Hi there, folks!
Greetings. I'm new on gamingsteve.com and also new in Spore.

I was wondering if there is a way to check the total number of Planets/Colonies/Systems of my Empire.

One thing I miss in this game is a way to check how big and strong your Empire is, compared to the other known empires..

I'm not completely sure if there actually is a way other than extreme zooming out.
