Help with computer?
« on: June 10, 2014, 06:29:17 am »
I dropped my computer on the floor half a year ago.

At first the files would take a while to open, and sometimes the control panel would crash. A couple of days ago I had the blue screen and now it won't start sometimes, and files are really slow.

I'm thinking of taking it to repair, but I wonder what they can do and how much will it cost.

Any suggestions?

If the problems started only after the drop, my first thought would be that the hard drive got messed up somehow.

Slow file access and crashes and blue screens can all happen from a broken or compromised hard drive. Now, those could also mean something else, too. Maybe it's the RAM. But those would be my two first guesses.

How old is the system. Neither of those things are terribly difficult or expensive to replace. Though if the system is a lot older it may not be worth it to repair.

Hey, thanks Pat! Not sure how old the system is, but this gives me at least some idea of what might be going on!

That all definitely sounds like a problem with the hard drive or RAM. I would suggest, at the least, backing up any important data you want to keep.

You better be doing 1930s style Charleston there Slinky, because 20s style doesn't swing.

1. Get a PC.

2. Install OS.

3. Copy your files over to PC.

4. Format laptop - In OS installation or in BIOS. (I assume laptop because dropped).

5. Reinstall OS on laptop.

6. (Optional) copy non-system files back to laptop from PC.

7. (Optional) download iCare Data Recovery or similar to recover files from inaccessible disks.

If the laptop still doesn't work, then there's a hardware problem, and you probably need a new computer or component.

If not a a laptop, then it's probably just one component, like the motherboard or hard drive that the OS is installed on

Its not rare at all. Dancing is a nerdy activity, particularly swing.

Try dropping it on the opposite side so they both match.

A wise Surface to Air Missile once said about marrying 9 year olds in Saudi Arabia "Its pretty hard to tell if a 9 year old is going to be hot when she grows up, kids change a lot, usually, seems like a bad system. That cute little nine year old you married could end being a fat, zitty teenager."

Okay, so sometimes my computer will be so that pressing the number keys will open or select that number program on my hotbar, and the spacebar will make all my program windows transparent, and other such nonsense.

It seems to happen at random, but I figure I must be pressing some sort of key combination I'm unaware of to activate this retardmodetm but I don't know what. The only way I can fix it is by restarting my computer.

I want to know what this is so I can press it again to undo it or avoid doing it in the first place.
