I was just getting into music when Joy Division were around, at the tail end of punk rock.

I still love them.

Uh, Joy Division are one of the bands featured, and a large part of the movie is taken up with the suicide of the lead singer.

If you liked Joy Division, you have to hear the first New Order album, "Movement." If Ian Curtis had sung on that record, it would have been better than "Closer"...
On a somewhat related note, the most (personally) prized item in my record collection is a first pressing of the "Transmission" 45, their first single.

Everyone says that, but I really don't hear it. I guess Interpol's singer does sound a bit like Ian Curtis from time to time, but their music isn't even close. If anything, Interpol sounds like a much-less-funky Gang of Four.
