Kaidu [qaɪ̯.ˈ̞ʊ] AKA Kenotai's language!
« on: December 17, 2013, 03:58:21 pm »
Hi, I mentioned that I had a conlang, and I will briefly make an introduction here. Some linguistic knowledge (ability to read IPA) may be required.
Kaidu [qaɪ̯.ˈ̞ʊ] is a language that I have been working on for about a year and a half now.

Phonology:
Consonants to the left are unvoiced, ones to the right are voiced.

Consonants:
BilabialsAlveolarsRetroflexVelarsUvulars
Stops p    t    k    q
Fricatives f v s z χ ɣ
Approximants   β̞    ̞    ɻ    ɰ
Nasals   m    n
Prenasalised Stops ᵐp    ⁿt    ᵑk    ᶰq
Vowels:
/ɐ~a/ /i/ /u~ʊ/ /e~ɛ/ /o~ɔ/, each vowel pair is listed unstressed~stressed, and diphthongs /ai/ /ia/ /oi/ /io/ /ui/ /iu/.
Stress:
Ultimate stress in root words and compounds, verb endings and some noun endings do not get stress. Stress will be indicated by underline, for example: garas, ntegimon, inme.

I guess that's good so far, never consolidated my grammar so I don't know where to start, but I have a few lessons (as in very few) on my mini tumbr: www.kaidulanguage.tumblr.com
But I should be able to adress questions or even translate something if you want. I also have a writing system for this, you can see it in the names for the colors here:

Was there any motivation behind your choice of phonology? I think it's kinda weird to be missing [ b] and [d], two of the most common consonants?

Ah you ran into the formatting problem! :P Why would I need voiced stops? I never liked them. Oceanic languages get by without them.

This is awesome, Kenotai!! Do you have the entire language figured out?

Now you need to cobble together a servicable story to sell your language to others and we can start calling you J.R.R. Tolkien.

A while back, during the Dawn of Worlds game, Brandon and I made a conlang (well, the bones of one) and script called Korpa Kalosi, to serve as a common tongue for the world. Here it is. Woooo. I didn't go too crazy with it, especially the phonology. I wanted it to seem like a really universally accessible language. (Also, I wanted to be able to actually pronounce it. Which didn't work out so great because it has trilled Rs which I can't pronounce. Whoops.)

The writing reminds me a lot of Hangul. I guess that was the inspiration source?

Well, for it to be more like a real language he has to create different dialects for it, much like what Tolkien did with Elvish.

If you stop and think about it, Your life's longer as an old guy than a kid. Scary o.o

The grammar is done enough than new rules can be easily cobbled together from existing rules. The lexicon is far from complete BUT I do have 2200 entries so far which covers about ~3500 English words, maybe more (hard to count TBH).

Yeah, I said as much in the tumblr link I provided at the end :P
