Bars in the upper left corner
« on: March 28, 2005, 08:55:43 am »
I was just looking at the screenshots (again) and noticed something interesting, at first, in the single cell phase, 2 bars are visible (and judging by the curve of the circle to the left of the bars, there are none cut off on the top). Once we move on to the 3d game, there are 3 bars. in the editor, however, there are 6 bars whereas there are clearly only 3 for the rest of the game (all the way to the spaceship). It is my opinion that there bars represent 3 basic properties of your creature (One may be speed, on strength, one intelligence, just my opinion but feel free to speculate). So therefore, concievably the other 3 shown in the creature editor are like a before and after, how speedy was your creature before evolving this appendage? Check the bars. How much more intelligent will it be when i replace the (or add a new) brain? It's right at the top of the screen. Please remember that this is all my opinion of these bars and doesn't represent anything official.

Let the speculation begin.

Good eye, but I doubt that any of those is 'intelligence'. Maybe they're a speed, strength, and endurance multiplier - or perhaps they measure those stats from your design - but I wouldn't be willing to bet anything on it.

The could be bars like in RPG games: a health bar, a power(attacks cost power) and an endurance bar(you use that when you run and when the bar is empty can't you run)

Those are reasonable suggestions for the three in the main game, but not for the three on the design screen.

I agree. Simcity 4 tried to go with a simish look, why not Spore?

look close

the bottom bar comes with a heart symbol, that would be health

the upper bar is a bit like a piece of meat with the bone still on it or a fish, it is hunger or food

in this picture
another bar is added, I can't see clear what the symbol is. It's a bit like a puzzle piece.

in the creation screen the bars are like speed, strength etc.

Here's a close-up image of the mysterious third bar. It looks like a brain.

And here's the civilization interface. The first one is probably city size, because of the three huts depicted. The second one shows two people. This lead me to believe it meant population. The third one looks like a dollar bill. It is most likely the finances used to purchase new things.

Yeah, or a space invader.

Why they would have a 'brain bar', I don't know. After all, you just buy new brains. It's not something that would change over the course of trying to kill other monsters.

I agree with Craig, I'm not sure why they would have a bar just for sentience when you purchase brains while you evolve. I'm really nto sure what to make of that first symbol, maybe a claw?

I think Intelligence, food and health are pretty accurate.

In the first stage where you are a single cell you wouldn't have intelligence anyway, you work on instinct and that is to survive so you only need worry about your health and hunger. My guess would be once your either your hunger or health (or both) is at max you lay an egg and are ready to evolve again to the next level.

Once you become sentient you get the intelligence bar and then that dictates when you are ready to evolve again.
