Any business sim fans?
« on: December 25, 2005, 11:28:31 am »
I'm just posting this asking if there are any other fans of the business sim genre. Both the more accessible sims like the Roller Coaster Tycoon series as well as the more realistic and complex ones like the capitalism series.

What are some of your favorite business sims?

Lastly, what do you think about the up-and-coming NYC Tycoon game?

Holy crap. Roller Coaster Tycoon is a gift from the gods. That game is utterly fantastic! I love it, obviously. I think that some of these games are pure genius.

Theme Hospital is another one I played for hundreds of hours. I still have a bunch of old issues of Gamepro that have "Coming Soon" ads for Theme Hospital.

I still haven't looked into the NY one yet, but will in a few moments.

Wow, this makes me realize how long it's been since I was an active user here.

Theme Hospital is total class! That was the most entertaining sim i think Ive ever played. Shame the company went bust and theyll probably never make a follow up :(

Back in the 80's (before I was 11 years old, hehe), I used to play a german stock trading game on the commodore64 alot ;)  I think it was simply titled "Börse" (Stockmarket), but I'm probably wrong.

I love running empires and manging them, so I have played a fair amount of sim games.

Warning!: never ever be tempted to buy a game called Casino Tycoon. It is the worst piece of crap i ever got free when i bought two decent games for £10. Steer clear!

If you are looking for a casino manager sim, you might want to try Vega$

I normally wouldn't trust a game with a $ in the title, or a budget title for that matter, but this one does pretty good. Is it a classic? Hell no, but its dirt cheap and good fun if you're on a casino kick.

The capitalism series of games (Capitalism, Capitalism plus and Capitalism II) are all wonderful games. I even read somewhere that the creator was possibly working on a Capitalism III that weaves internet-era supply and distribution channels into the game. No offical word on that, that I know of anyway.

I played Capitalism II a lot. It's not a business sim for beginers, it's quite tough.A third capitalism would rock! By the way NY tycoon looks very interesting and I'm eager to become the next Donald Trump  ;)
Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in ancient Greek republics: Freedom for slave owners.-Lenin

Yeah, I would have endless fun making an Pirate Island just for a Roller Coaster, or a Snowman themed one. The thing that sucks is you can't add scenery in the Rollercoaster Editor.

Yeah, and building tunnels for your rides to go through is a pain in the ass

eh? No, I mean: If you build say... the Haunted mansion ride, all you have to start is the track (unless you use the premade one) It takes ages to build a whole house out of little wall segments.

Oh, I thought you meant like ground tunnels.
