Kickstarters of interest
« on: November 23, 2012, 07:48:31 pm »
Given links to kickstarters have become a semi-regular thing now, I guess it makes sense to have a central thread for them for bored browsing.
It's a crying shame when interesting projects slip on by, plus sometimes we could use a helpful reality check when something smells like a scam.
Not limited to games, either.

So, I'll start us off with a generic fantasy-looking game with a fun looking underpinning system, for your curiosity :

As well as a potential (official) Elite game :

I don't think I'll be going for that kickstarter for the same reason I didn't go for that Planetary Annihilation one...
No in-game footage, just concept talk and buzzwords. Hell, not even concept work beyond stills of a popular blockworld style. The more I hear about reinventing/redefining a genre (on a budget, on a small time limit), and re-envisioning older games, the more I shut off. Also : Molyneux. Sure games with him floating in them tend to be interesting on the surface, but they also have an awful habit of lacking immersion once you work out the skeletal mechanics. Plus I never quite forgave him for The Movies, which is a shining example of this. :I

Fable: TLC was pretty awesome....

Eh **** it I loved all three, they're awesome fantasy games.
No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.

Well at least my thought that Molyneux might be good again didn't last long enough for me to give him money.

But Maia got funded so I don't care.

Nah, videogame kickstarters are a bad idea.

The only kickstarters I actually went for are the reaper miniatures one and the Dinosaur Comics guy's choose-your-own-Hamlet.

Maia and Godus are going to be super bad, you heard it here first.
Not a winner anymore.

But Maia at least has some actual prototype footage and isn't being made by Peter Molyneux for Mobile Devices. And the person who is making it has made games before and isn't Peter Molyneux.

They are almost there..60%

All those features make it look like an over ambitious failure in the making.

Speaking of over ambitious failures, the direct Dungeon Keeper rip-off spiritual sequel War for the Overworld, that's been in development for awhile now has started a Kickstarter. Which despite being a spiritual Dungeon Keeper 3 and being called War for the Overworld, it apparently does not actually feature an Overworld. Nor does it take place in space.
