The issue tv tropes suffered is the fact anyone can curate it, which meant it got bloated with totally superfluous and un-noteworthy bull****.

But... but everything I've read on there has always been un-noteworthy. :U

That's the same complaint for almost any other wiki out there.

Wikipedia has more consistent and strict editorial policies and standards for articles. The structure of the site is also different. On Tvtropes the way content is presented tacitly implies all articles have a similar value, so to the casual reader it seems like the site is giving as much kudos to some slipshod bull**** a 13 year old put up there as some rigorously researched hero's journey stuff which came out of actual literary scholarship and is hugely influential on the media.
Sam is basically right, he's just cranky.

So I just an email saying Playtonic(ex Rare people) are going to do a Kickstarter on May 1st for their new IP

Should be interesting to see how it develops.

Especially interesting to see if they have any talent left...

My 'Insignificant' kickstarter that I backed is cruising along so that's neat.
No, no, he did. In the everything else section, at least. Officially, this makes him king.

Kickstarter projects do not get my attention very often. So far only three have been interesting enough for me to donate to: Grim Dawn, Star Citizen, and Obduction.

But now there's this new project going up very soon that has my interest once more. This one has been bouncing around the rumor mill for a long time but there seems to be life!

Yooka-Laylee

From their website:

Quote from: Playtonic Games
Yooka-Laylee (previously ‘Project Ukulele’) is an all-new 3D platformer from the creative talent behind the Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country games. We’ve come together to form Playtonic Games and create a spiritual successor to our most cherished work from the past!

Our new heroes, Yooka (the green one) and Laylee (the wisecracking bat with big nose) were conceptualised from the ground up for stellar platforming gameplay, created by the same character artist behind the rebooted Donkey Kong family and legendary N64 heroes Banjo and Kazooie. Let’s collect some golden trinkets!

They even got Grant Kirkhope (music sample from the new game here!). I think they've confirmed a PC and Wii U release, with the potential to expand to other consoles. Though I hope Microsoft gets told to sit in a corner for this one. :P

Anyway, Jon sums up how I feel every time, always. It's the spiritual successor to one of my favorite games in my favorite subset of my favorite genre. Doesn't get much better than that.

The actual Kickstarter should be up today or tomorrow hopefully.

>mfw wiiu version is cancelled and it becomes microsoft exclusive

Well that looks delightful.

Wait.  Wait a second.  Is this why Jontron has that bird? so he can have it sit on his shoulder and pretend they're banjo-kazooie?
Probably not a Goat, either.

Dang oh man. I left for work and the Kickstarter was to begin in two hours. Got home from work 12 or 13 hours later and the project was 466% funded.

Guess I can wait a bit before pledging. Also very happy to see October 2016 as their release date. Gives them about two years when you factor in time already spent on the project.

HAHA

OH WOW

So before I went to bed last night it was at 400ish grand. When I wake up and go check it just now it's over a million.

Now I ask major developers and publishers around the world, especially Microsoft, YOU FEEL LIKE MAYBE YOU ****ED UP, MAYBE!???!?!?
